Description:

The Banquet Houseman is responsible for the setup, breakdown, cleanliness, and maintenance of banquet and event spaces. This position assists with moving and arranging tables, chairs, stages, equipment, and supplies while supporting banquet staff to ensure events are executed efficiently and according to hotel standards. The Banquet Houseman provides responsive service, maintains a clean and organized work environment, and follows all safety and operational procedures.

PRE-REQUISITES

  • Previous banquet, hotel, event setup, or related hospitality experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow banquet event orders, room diagrams, and setup instructions.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, standing, and walking.

  • Provide courteous, responsive service to guests, meeting planners, and fellow associates.

  • Maintain banquet and meeting spaces in a guest-ready and site-ready condition.
Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of banquet room setup standards and basic event service procedures.
  • Ability to follow floor plans, event specifications, and instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain clean, organized event and storage areas.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Ability to respond promptly and professionally to last-minute setup changes and service requests.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting, moving, handling, and storage practices for furniture and banquet equipment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Banquet & Event Setup

  • Set up and break down banquet rooms, meeting spaces, and event areas according to event specifications and floor plans.
  • Arrange tables, chairs, stages, dance floors, podiums, linens, and other banquet equipment as required.
  • Assist with the setup of audiovisual equipment, staging, risers, and other event-related equipment.
  • Ensure meeting and event spaces are maintained in a guest-ready or site-ready appearance.
  • Respond promptly to last-minute setup changes and guest or event staff requests.

Operational Support

  • Move and transport tables, chairs, equipment, supplies, and furniture safely throughout the hotel.
  • Assist banquet servers, captains, and supervisors with event preparations and service needs.
  • Replenish supplies such as linens, glassware, china, silverware, and other banquet items as needed.
  • Support other hotel departments as needed to ensure smooth event operations and exceptional guest service.

Cleanliness, Storage & Equipment

  • Ensure banquet rooms and event spaces are clean, organized, and properly maintained before, during, and after events.
  • Maintain cleanliness of banquet areas, storage rooms, service areas, and equipment.
  • Break down and properly store banquet equipment and furniture after events.
  • Inspect banquet equipment and report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning items to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain organized banquet storage areas and return supplies and equipment to designated locations.

Safety & Standards

  • Follow proper lifting, handling, and safety procedures when moving heavy equipment and furniture.
  • Follow all hotel policies, procedures, and standards for safety, cleanliness, and guest service.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Banquet Manager or supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed throughout banquet rooms, meeting spaces, storage areas, service corridors, and other hotel areas.
  • Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to safely lift and move banquet furniture, equipment, and supplies with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work schedules vary according to hotel occupancy, meetings, banquets, and special events and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Priorities and workloads are subject to change, requiring flexibility and acceptance of non-routine assignments.
