We are currently seeking a HVAC Testing & Commissioning Technician to add to our growing team.
Position Summary & Objective
The HVAC Testing & Commissioning Technician plays a critical role in ensuring HVAC systems are started, tested, and commissioned safely, accurately, and on schedule. This role is responsible for field commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) demonstrations, and supporting startups, warranty service, and repairs. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute all phases of startup and testing activities for HVAC units and systems, ensuring reliable and trouble-free operation
- Perform pre-startup tasks including reviewing engineering drawings, bill of materials, checklists, and loading PLC/VFD programs
- Inspect and verify equipment installation and component integrity prior to energizing systems
- Conduct system checks during startup including motor rotation, belt alignment, refrigerant charge optimization, and control sequences
- Identify and resolve errors, omissions, and deficiencies prior to quality control and commissioning
- Support field commissioning activities and conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) demonstrations
- Provide technical guidance to customers on installation, startup, and operation of HVAC systems
- Prepare detailed reports documenting procedures, findings, and recommended solutions
- Respond to warranty service and emergency repair requests as needed
- Maintain strong communication with internal teams, customers, and stakeholders
- Promote and enforce safety standards, procedures, and housekeeping practices
- Review safety requirements and job hazards prior to beginning work
- Manage time, priorities, and travel schedules effectively
- Maintain assigned company vehicle and travel to job sites as required
- Assist with training and development of team members when applicable
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the HVAC industry
- Commercial and/or industrial HVAC experience required
- Strong knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical systems, and refrigeration circuits
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
- Advanced troubleshooting skills for controls and refrigeration systems
- Experience with startup, commissioning, or testing of HVAC systems preferred
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and customer interaction skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with PLCs, VFDs, and system programming
- Familiarity with Class I, Division 2 environments and requirements
- Knowledge of industrial plant safety practices including LOTO and permitting
- Ability to safely work with energized equipment up to 600 volts
Certifications
- EPA Certification (required)
- Texas HVAC Technician Registration
- TWIC Card (preferred)
- Basic Plus (preferred)
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift up to 65 lbs independently and more with assistance
- Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and work in physically demanding conditions
- Ability to work around live equipment and high-voltage systems
- Overnight and extended travel required (frequent travel to job sites and customer locations)
