This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - CyberLife based in the United States.
This role is focused on building, maintaining, and modernizing mission-critical Life & Annuity policy administration systems within a highly regulated financial environment. You will work on complex mainframe-based platforms that directly support insurance products used by financial professionals and policyholders across the United States. The position combines deep technical engineering with domain expertise in policy administration systems, particularly CyberLife. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable, reliable, and high-performing solutions that support long-term business stability.
In this role, you will also serve as a technical leader, guiding engineering decisions while mentoring less experienced developers. Your work will directly influence system performance, operational reliability, and the continued evolution of core insurance platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role in a legacy-rich but evolving environment where modernization, stability, and precision must coexist.
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex software solutions supporting Life & Annuity policy administration systems, including CyberLife.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications and scalable system designs.
- Provide technical leadership through mentoring, code reviews, and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Architect and maintain robust mainframe-based solutions ensuring high standards of performance, reliability, and security.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across production systems, ensuring system stability and continuity.
- Drive innovation by evaluating new technologies and proposing improvements to existing systems and development processes.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to explain architecture, design decisions, and solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred) or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience with a strong record of delivering enterprise-grade solutions.
- Extensive experience in COBOL, PL/I, or Assembler programming languages.
- Strong background in IBM mainframe environments, including CICS, VSAM, and JCL.
- Deep expertise in Life & Annuity policy administration systems, particularly CyberLife.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across technical and business stakeholders.
- Preferred: Experience with VPMS, SCLM, RPS (Repetitive Payment System).
- Preferred: Exposure to distributed technologies such as AWS, Java, Python, JavaScript, and SQL-based systems.
- Preferred: Experience modernizing or integrating insurance policy administration platforms and familiarity with Agile/Scrum environments.
- Preferred: Prior mentoring or technical leadership experience, and familiarity with using AI tools to enhance development efficiency.
- Competitive base salary range of $130,000 – $150,000
