About the Role:

The Auto Repair General Service Technician plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles to ensure their safe and efficient operation. This position involves diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine maintenance, and executing repairs according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards. The technician will work closely with service advisors and customers to communicate vehicle conditions and recommend necessary services. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are essential to deliver high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. Ultimately, this role contributes to the overall reliability and longevity of customers' vehicles, supporting the reputation and success of the service facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal automotive training program or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Proven experience as an automotive technician or mechanic in a general service capacity.
  • Basic knowledge of automotive systems, tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • State Inspector's License.
  • Experience working with computerized diagnostic tools and software.
  • Familiarity with hybrid and electric vehicle systems.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and environmental standards related to automotive repair.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections to identify mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Conduct routine maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid replacements.
  • Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, suspension, and other automotive systems using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed and parts used, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate effectively with service advisors and customers regarding vehicle issues, repair options, and estimated timelines.

Skills:

The required skills enable the technician to accurately diagnose and repair a variety of vehicle issues, ensuring efficient and reliable service delivery. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and mechanical systems allows for effective troubleshooting and maintenance. Strong communication skills are essential for explaining technical information clearly to customers and team members. Preferred skills, such as ASE certification and experience with advanced vehicle technologies, enhance the technician’s ability to handle complex repairs and stay current with industry advancements.
