Middle School Spanish Teacher
International School of Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, hardworking, full-time Middle School Spanish Teacher for the 2026-27 school year and beyond
The ideal candidate is one who understands and enjoys working with middle school students (ages 11-14), who loves language learning, history and humanities studies, and who inspires students to love that process as well. Other ideal attributes include commitment, patience, strong classroom management skills, positive energy, a sense of humor, and a commitment to making curriculum accessible to all types of learners.
Description of position
The individual will:
Teach sections of Middle School Spanish spanning across 6th, 7th, and 8th grade; depending on qualifications, subjects taught may include:
Spanish Individuals and Societies: co-planned by the department and taught at ISB in English, Spanish, and French, these classes focus on delivering a standard middle school history curriculum in target languages
Spanish Acquisition: for students brand new to the language, these classes keen focus on Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing
Spanish Language Studies: for advanced spanish speaking students, these classes blend a focus on strengthening Spanish literacy while also incorporating literature studies.
Collaborate with other Spanish and Humanities teachers across the division
Develop unit planners in line with the IB’s philosophy, including hands-on investigations and real-world projects
Serve as an advisor or grade leader for middle school students
Plan and facilitate division-wide clubs, electives, or fulfill supervisory duties as required by the Middle School Division
Write detailed narrative reports twice per year
Assist with the organization of the annual Spanish language trip
Assist with the organization of the annual DELE (Spanish proficiency) exams
Foster a positive, inquiry-based learning environment
Support students outside of class as needed during the school day
Provide timely and consistent feedback to students and families
Communicate effectively and build strong partnerships with students, families, and colleagues
Attend and chaperone trips (as needed)
Model and promote kindness, positivity, and integrity both in and out of the classroom
Requirements:
Teaching experience, preferably in a middle school setting; experience teaching in an independent, international, or IB school is a plus
Degree in History, Spanish language, or education, and/or significant experience and skill with teaching humanities and/or language courses
Familiarity with and commitment to inquiry-based learning
Supportive, student-centered approach and ability to differentiate instruction effectively and intuitively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Effective classroom management skills with commitment to restorative practices and positive behavior support
High level of comfort and experience with educational technology including Google Suite (or a sincere willingness to learn these tools)
Collaborative spirit and a commitment to being a team player
Dedication to professional growth and participation in school-wide initiatives

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: minimum $65,731 to maximum $107,899 (based on experience).
