Position Summary
The Therapist assures the implementation of effective individual, family, and/or group therapy, provides training, and support to other treatment staff. The therapist also assists with general quality assurance responsibilities for program treatment services. This position will work 201 days per year (full-time).
- Clinical and Support
- Assist program staff during youth and/or family crisis and facilitate problem-solving meetings as necessary.
- Be available to staff for consultation with assessment, treatment issues, and crisis via pager.
- Assist the PHP team in the development and implementation of a crisis plan for each individual/family in treatment.
- Collaborate with the Psychiatrist for Student medication management and observation/interview.
- Demonstrates a proficient level of cultural sensitivity.
- Build positive and productive relationships with a diverse population.
- Adheres to Pressley Ridge values and Re-ED principles and acts in line with those values.
- Provide individual and family therapy in a culturally sensitive manner with adherence to professional Code of Ethics, as recommended by treatment team.
- Assist with development and implementation of Behavior Management, Contracts, Supportive Counseling Plans, Group Management Systems, Individualized Interventions, etc.
- Assure the implementation of best practice standards.
- Utilization of 15 clinical hours documented per week.
- Weekly formal supervision, one hour, with staff, therapists and informal consultation as needed.
- Caseload size is determined by Program Director. Number of sessions with youth and/or family depends on need and program procedures.
- Facilitate or assist in facilitating groups as per program and client need at request of supervisor.
- Complete clinical evaluations and assessments for youth and families within program timelines as assigned by supervisor.
- Participate in treatment planning for youth and family by advocating for specific needs, providing information regarding youth progress in therapy, and providing education on various issues. Treatment planning activities include treatment team meetings, case review meetings, family meetings, etc.
- Communication
- Attendance at Program Advisory Group meetings weekly to represent the interest of clients and facilitate internal communication.
- Use written documentation to communicate effectively with peers and supervisors.
- Documentation
- Complete all required paperwork.
- Complete written work that is legible, accurate, and uses professional language.
- Demonstrates proficiency with electronic health records.
- Provide documentation that follows program procedures, State, licensing, and Medicaid regulations, including but not limited to therapy plans, case notes, assessments, progress summaries, etc. Sign off on various documentation per program procedures and licensing regulations.
- Meet timelines for submitting paperwork established by the program and organization.
- Supervision
- Receive supervision.
- Receive supervision from and actively communicate with supervisor on an ongoing basis throughout the week by phone, email, written message and when possible, in person regarding program matters
- Meet with Lead Therapist for formal individual supervision at least two times per month to discuss professional development needs, clinical issues, review documentation, and receive feedback on job performance, etc.
- Receive supervision.
- Leadership
- Participate in regularly scheduled in-service training as requested.
- Provide training to various program staff regarding mental health issues, individual and family treatment issues, and group work, through assisting in routine program training, or providing training per supervisor’s request. This is evaluated through supervisor observation, review of case notes, training material, and team meeting notes.
- Attendance once a month at each program’s team meeting to facilitate case consultations.
- Directly supervise assigned children.
- Professional Development
- Serves periodically on program committees, with the approval of the Program Director.
- Attends periodically local, state, or national conferences and workshops, with the approval of the Program Director.
- Provides in-service training to Pressley Ridge programs, with the approval of the Program Director.
- Risk Management and Safety
- Follow designated program policy regarding the documentation of negative incidents (such as physical injury or illness, property damage, runaway, student search for drugs or weapons, physical restraint and so on).
- Follow program-designated procedures for all physical contact with students during physical restraints, student searches etc.
- Follow program-designated procedures for student illness and injury, including arranging necessary medical care and informing appropriate persons of the situation, and documenting the injury/illness and actions taken.
- According to a designated schedule, supervise students’ arrival and departure to school via buses and cabs.
- Assist other staff as needed in physical interventions to protect students and staff from injury.
- Detect and remediate any potentially dangerous environmental conditions (such as broken glass).
- When transporting students, maintain safe driving procedures.
Qualifications
- Education/Credentials/Licensure:
- Requires a master’s degree in counseling or social work.
- Degree program must include a clinical practicum or internship.
- Requires a valid state driver’s license, safe driving record, and current auto insurance.
- Requires a master’s degree in counseling or social work.
- Experience:
- Requires two (2) years of experience working with children and families.
- Requires experience with the application of behavior management, ecological systems theory, and cognitive behavioral techniques.
- Clearances Required by Applicable Regulations:
- State Police
- FBI
- Child Abuse Clearances
- Mandated Reporter-Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training certificate and/or statement
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands:
- This position requires operating a keypad device 25% of the day and electronic/office equipment 50% of the day. Travel includes transporting students to and from school, school-based appointments, and/or field trips. Fingers, thumbs, hands, wrists, elbows, legs and feet are all routinely used throughout the day. The lower and upper torso is used 25% of the day. Employee must meet minimum requirements for hearing, speech, and vision. Walking is required 25% of the day. Standing occurs 25% of the day. Sitting happens 75% of the day. Reaching above the shoulder as well as bending and twisting are performed 25% of the day. This function routinely lifts 10 pounds, 4 times per day. The maximum lift is under 50 pounds, 1 time per day. The position requires the ability to implement physical interventions and meet the physical demands of TCI.
