Job Description

Description:

Fervo Energy is the leading developer of next-generation geothermal power. We design, build, own, and operate geothermal wellfields, pipelines, power plants, and transmission assets — delivering firm, flexible clean power to utilities and hyperscalers.

Position Overview

The Senior Leader, Asset Management will lead Fervo Energy's asset management function at a pivotal moment in the company's commercial evolution. This is a people management role with full accountability for team performance, functional strategy, and execution across market integration, portfolio optimization, and commercial asset management.

We are looking for a leader who brings exceptional program management instincts, the ability to build structure in ambiguous environments, and the executive presence to operate effectively with a data-driven CEO and senior leadership team. Deep geothermal or asset management expertise is not a prerequisite — we will invest in that development. What is non-negotiable is the ability to move fast, build capable teams, synthesize complexity into action, and own outcomes.

This role reports directly to the SVP, Development & Commercial Markets and will manage a growing team of managers, analysts, and specialists.

Requirements:

Responsibilities

Functional Leadership
  • Set strategic direction and own execution across all three AM pillars: market integration (CAISO/SC), portfolio optimization (P&L, forecasting, unit economics), and commercial asset management (PPA and customer relationships).
  • Define team structure, roles, and operating cadences; build the function to scale with Fervo's growing portfolio.
  • Drive weekly leadership reporting and escalation to the SVP; translate operational detail into clear executive-ready updates with a point of view and recommended action.
  • Own the AM function's contribution to Cape Phase 1 COD readiness, Day 1 market execution, and post-COD commercial operations.
People Leadership
  • Manage, develop, and hold accountable a team of senior managers, analysts, and specialists across market integration, optimization, and commercial tracks.
  • Build a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, clear priorities, and direct feedback.
  • Partner with the SVP on org design, career pathing, and talent decisions as the function scales.
  • Leverage the functional expertise of senior IC colleagues — including the Director, Asset Management (IC) — to develop team capability and establish operational standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Executive Engagement
  • Represent Asset Management at the ELT level, in board materials, and in external partner-facing settings.
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, Origination, and Market Fundamentals to align strategies and resolve complex cross-functional issues.
  • Synthesize technical, financial, and market inputs into actionable recommendations for the SVP and CEO; hold the room in data-driven leadership discussions.
Governance & Performance
  • Establish and own the AM function's operating rhythms: reporting cadences, performance dashboards, KPIs, and escalation protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with PPA obligations, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement and adoption of tools, processes, and technologies that improve reliability and margin performance.

Competencies & Skills

Leadership

  • Decisive under ambiguity: moves from ambiguous problem to structured action plan rapidly — this is the primary performance differentiator for this role.
  • Direct and accountable: sets expectations clearly, follows through, and holds the team to the same standard.
  • Executive presence: communicates with precision and confidence; earns credibility with a data-driven CEO audience.
  • Builder mindset: energized by creating structure, building teams, and establishing functional infrastructure in a growth environment.
Functional
  • Strong financial and analytical instincts; able to interrogate models, challenge assumptions, and synthesize outputs without being the modeler.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder programs or commercial operations with significant revenue or cost exposure.
  • Comfort navigating highly technical domains and developing functional fluency quickly — energy sector background preferred but not required.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in complex commercial, program management, or operational leadership roles.
  • Proven track record building and leading high-performing teams in fast-moving, high-stakes environments.
  • Demonstrated P&L ownership, contract management, or revenue operations experience.
  • Energy sector experience (renewable energy, power generation, nuclear, or adjacent) preferred; exceptional candidates from other complex industries will be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at our Houston office will be required.
