Job Description
The Security Guard helps maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment for students, staff, families, and visitors at Excelsior Prep Charter Schools. This position monitors campus activity, assists with emergency response procedures, supports arrival and dismissal operations, and helps enforce school safety expectations and visitor protocols. The Security Guard serves as a visible presence committed to student well-being and campus security.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Monitor school grounds, entrances, hallways, common areas, and parking areas to promote safety and security.
• Assist with visitor check-in procedures and help ensure compliance with campus access protocols.
• Observe and report suspicious activity, safety concerns, property damage, or unauthorized individuals on campus.
• Support morning arrival, afternoon dismissal, lunch periods, school events, and other high-traffic times.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and disruptions in accordance with school procedures.
• Assist administrators with student supervision and de-escalation support when needed.
• Prepare written incident reports that are accurate, timely, and professional.
• Help enforce school rules, safety procedures, and emergency preparedness plans.
• Communicate respectfully and effectively with students, families, staff, and visitors.
• Coordinate with school leadership and, when appropriate, local emergency personnel regarding safety matters.
• Inspect gates, doors, and designated security areas to help maintain secure campus operations.
• Perform other duties assigned by school leadership.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior experience in school security, safety, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Valid Florida security license, where required, or ability to obtain required credentials preferred.
• Knowledge of campus safety practices, emergency procedures, and incident documentation.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise sound judgment in stressful situations.
• Strong observation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents in a school setting.
• Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and respectful interactions.
