Position Purpose:
The Manager for the Crisis Workers will provide oversight of the daily operations of the crisis triage teams across the system. This position is responsible for hiring, training, leading, supporting and coordinating the crisis triage teams in regard to resource allocation, clinical care, customer service, process improvement and communication, to promote excellence in patient care. Oversight includes supervision of staff, patient interactions, quality, billing, and relationships with medical personnel. Crisis and social services interventions will take place in our emergency room and inpatient behavioral health unit.
This position reports to the Director for Behavioral Health; it provides supervision to the Crisis Team staff at HCH and MSH campuses.
Key Job Activities:
- Evaluates staff competence and training needs including annual hospital compliance requirements. Possesses knowledge of community crisis services, law enforcement protocols, hospital systems, and related community resources for patients. Shares knowledge of available resources with co-workers.
- Ensures adequate quantity and quality of personnel to meet the standards of care, productivity and needs of the patients of Sinai Health System. Participates in staff recruitment and retention activities. Conducts annual performance evaluations.
- Provides appropriate resources and referrals to patients in regards to their: social, emotional, financial, or medical needs. Effectively communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality of care.
- Manages in-service education programs, which reflect current practice and new trends in health care delivery. Participates and provides assistance with educational programs for other departments as required.
- Prepares goals, operational reports and supporting information under recommendations from the administrative and medical leaders.
- Establishes and maintains an open-door policy for all staff members; to promote a good working environment, to maintain morale, and to motivate individual performance.
- Operates all services within the established budgetary guidelines to meet the financial goals of the institution.
- Familiarity with all rules and regulations that impact areas of responsibility in regard to regulatory compliance.
- Human Resources: Ensures that new employee orientations, new employee checklists, TB test compliance, and annual performance appraisals and other monthly assignments are completed in a timely manner.
- Collects and evaluates data AS NEEDED to maintain or improve the Crisis program performance, productivity, quality, and related aspects.
- Resolves any problems and complaints to ensure continued efficiency of department.
- Provides operational problem solving in areas of responsibility.
- Serves as an integral part of the treating team, collaborating with psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, on-call providers, nurses and other departments in providing behavioral health treatment across the system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required in social services or related field
- A Master’s degree is preferred in social work, counseling, psychology or related field
- A minimum of five years’ experience in mental health crisis intervention
- Minimum of two years’ experience supervising staff
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience in EPIC and MEDITECH software systems preferred.
