Lead Medical Assistant

Note: The compensation range noted above represents the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range.

Holyoke Medical Center is an independent community hospital that has served the healthcare needs of the Pioneer Valley for over 125 years. Our Neurology & Sleep practice is seeking an experienced Lead Medical Assistant to perform duties within the scope of the responsibility of a medical assistant with additional tasks related to patient flow in the office and clinical reporting requirements.

Overview of responsibilities includes but is not limited to:

  • Perform all clinical duties of a Medical Assistant, including patient rooming, vital signs, EMR documentation, and visit preparation.
  • Review and update electronic medical records, including medications, allergies, lab results, consults, and medical history.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, injections, and other clinical tasks within the scope of practice.
  • Process prescription refill requests, coordinate pharmacy communications, and ensure compliance with patient care requirements.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments, referrals, diagnostic testing, patient education, and checkout instructions.
  • Maintain exam rooms, clinical supplies, equipment, sterilization procedures, and quality control documentation.
  • Serve as the primary onsite resource for daily operations and act as the manager's designee when needed.
  • Provide leadership by resolving customer service concerns, supporting staff, and communicating operational updates.
  • Adjust provider and staff schedules, reassign resources as needed, and assist with daily staffing coverage.
  • Train and mentor new employees while promoting efficient workflows and adherence to practice standards.
  • Model professionalism, attention to detail, teamwork, and exceptional patient service in all interactions.
  • Perform additional job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Practice Manager or designee.

Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent; Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant training program.

Licenses/Registrations: Current CPR certification. Must hold one of the following Holyoke Medical Center approved Medical Assistant Certification OR attain approved MA certification within 6 months of hire: RMA/AMT, CMA/AAMA, or CCMA/NHA.

Experience: Two years general experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care or clinical environment

Special Aptitudes & Activities: Requires the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, Bilingual (English/Spanish) Preferred, along with strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of medical terminology, age-appropriate patient care, safe body mechanics, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
