The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Division of Facilities Services is looking for a Facilities Manager 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:
As a Facilities Manager 2 with the Division of Facilities Services, you will play a key role in managing and supporting the Juneau Hub’s state-owned facilities. This position provides leadership in facility operations, maintenance coordination, project planning, tenant improvements, and contracted services. You will work closely with state agencies, contractors, maintenance staff, and leadership to ensure facilities are safe, functional, well-maintained, and able to support agency operations.
This advanced journey-level position requires independent decision-making, strong communication, and the ability to coordinate multiple priorities across a diverse facility portfolio. You will assist agencies with space planning, moves, remodels, maintenance needs, and long-range facility improvements while helping develop practical solutions that support both building operations and tenant missions.
The position also supports capital improvement projects, contract administration, facility planning, and customer service throughout the Juneau Hub. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, coordinating complex work, improving facilities, and working with a wide range of people to keep critical state buildings operating effectively.

Competency Description

  • Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in facility management, public or business administration, planning, design, architecture, engineering, construction or maintenance, project or cost management or a closely related field.

Definitions:
“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

“Progressively responsible” means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.

The State of Alaska (SOA) uses four levels of proficiency to measure and describe an applicant’s level of competence in applying certain behaviors, knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish a specific task. The four proficiency levels are: Mastery, Fluency, Literacy, and Discovery. You will need to rate your proficiency level for each competency listed in the supplemental questions.
