Senior Clinical Data Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Clinical Data Manager based in Canada.

The Senior Clinical Data Manager will play a critical role in overseeing clinical data management activities across complex research studies.
This position combines technical expertise, study leadership, and client partnership to ensure high-quality data delivery from study start-up through database lock.
You will manage end-to-end data management processes while collaborating with cross-functional teams, sponsors, and internal stakeholders.
The role offers the opportunity to influence clinical trial success by improving processes, maintaining compliance, and driving operational excellence.
You will act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on data management strategies, systems, and best practices.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Clinical Data Manager will oversee clinical data management operations, ensuring studies are delivered according to quality standards, regulatory requirements, timelines, and client expectations. This role requires strong leadership, stakeholder management, and the ability to guide teams through complex clinical trial environments.

  • Lead clinical data management activities across assigned studies, including study start-up, database design, data validation, and database lock processes.
  • Act as the primary data management subject matter expert and client-facing representative, supporting sponsor relationships and translating requirements into effective solutions.
  • Manage study deliverables, timelines, resources, and priorities while ensuring alignment with protocols, quality standards, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to data management teams, reviewing deliverables and supporting team members in maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including clinical operations, statistical programming, biostatistics, and other biometrics functions to ensure effective study execution.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, data entry procedures, validation strategies, and operational processes.
  • Identify potential risks, develop mitigation strategies, and proactively communicate project status, challenges, and opportunities to stakeholders.
  • Support client meetings, relationship discussions, and strategic planning activities to ensure successful study outcomes.
  • Contribute to process improvements, best practices, training initiatives, and operational excellence within the data management function.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive clinical data management experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to manage complex studies while collaborating with sponsors and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in life sciences, health sciences, information technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical data management experience, including significant experience supporting oncology studies across early or late-stage clinical trials.
  • Proven experience managing sponsor relationships, including client communication, negotiations, scope of work discussions, and budget considerations.
  • Strong understanding of clinical trial processes, data management methodologies, clinical operations, biometrics, and clinical systems.
  • Experience leading complex, multi-site studies with challenging timelines, patient populations, or protocol requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent data management in client meetings, bid discussions, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Experience with Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems and clinical data management technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and CRO/pharmaceutical partnerships.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and guide data management professionals while promoting collaboration and continuous improvement.
