Who We Are

The City of Beverly Hills has a long-standing reputation for providing superior customer service to residents, businesses, and visitors. This characteristic, combined with outstanding staff in all departments, has been a hallmark of success for this high-performance organization. The municipal government (approximately 1,000+ full-time and part-time employees) provides the highest quality safety services, recreational activities, municipal services, and physical environment.

What We Do

The Public Works Department provides a variety of services related to the development, construction, inspection, improvement, and maintenance of the City's infrastructure. This infrastructure includes traffic lights, sidewalks, streetlights, and roadways. In addition, Public Works runs the following enterprise operations: Water, Solid Waste, Wastewater, Stormwater, and Parking Operations.

Who We're Looking For

The Public Works Department seeks a Transportation Planner with a genuine passion for transportation who is self-motivated and proactive — ready to take initiative, contribute meaningfully from day one, and bring energy and purpose to their work. The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of managing multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines, and adaptable to shifting priorities. The department values individuals who think critically to analyze tradeoffs, anticipate challenges, and develop practical solutions.

This person has strong written and oral communication skills, with an ability to translate complex technical concepts and data into clear, accessible language for non-technical audiences. They offer patience and empathy to community members, fostering trust in government.

Possession of a professional certification is preferred, though not required. Desired credentials include the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) designation, or other relevant professional planning, engineering, or transportation certifications.

Work Schedule
This position will be assigned a work schedule based on operational needs as determined by the Public Works Director. Potential schedules include 5/40 schedule, 9/80 schedule, and occasional meetings and events in the evenings as needed. This position may be eligible for a hybrid telecommuting schedule after an initial onsite training period established by the department upon hire.
