Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer – Offroad in the United States.
This role sits at the heart of building reliable, high-performance backend systems that power next-generation off-road mapping and navigation experiences. You will design and scale distributed services that enable offline maps, trail intelligence, and real-time geospatial data processing used by outdoor enthusiasts in the field. Working within a fast-moving, product-driven engineering environment, you will collaborate closely with mobile, frontend, and product teams to deliver seamless cross-platform experiences. The role combines deep backend engineering with ownership of end-to-end features, from architecture to production reliability. You will help shape the technical foundation of a rapidly evolving geospatial platform. This is a high-impact position where your work directly influences user safety, confidence, and exploration in the outdoors.
- Design and build scalable backend APIs and distributed services that support off-road navigation, mapping, and land intelligence features, ensuring high availability and performance in real-world conditions.
- Own end-to-end delivery of backend capabilities, including architecture design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support in production environments.
- Collaborate with mobile and frontend engineers to define clear API contracts and integration patterns that enable smooth, efficient cross-platform development.
- Participate in architectural decision-making for geospatial and mapping systems, contributing to shared engineering standards and long-term platform scalability.
- Improve system reliability through enhanced observability, monitoring, alerting, and proactive incident response, including participation in on-call rotations.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and collaborative problem-solving to strengthen team capability.
- Explore and apply modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development workflows, to improve productivity, quality, and system intelligence.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong focus on backend systems, distributed architectures, and cloud-based services.
- Strong proficiency in Go (Golang), with additional familiarity or curiosity for frontend technologies such as Vue.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, API design, and scalable backend development.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native infrastructure tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- Experience building, debugging, and maintaining highly available, production-grade systems.
- Strong foundation in computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Experience working in remote, distributed teams with strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with geospatial systems, offline-first architectures, or cloud platforms (e.g., GCP) is a strong plus.
- Passion for clean, maintainable, well-tested code and continuous learning, including emerging AI tooling.
- Competitive compensation including base salary, annual bonus eligibility, and equity options.
- Comprehensive healthcare coverage with low or no monthly employee medical premiums.
- Fully remote-friendly structure with flexible work arrangements across approved US locations.
- Generous parental leave policies and inclusive family support programs.
- 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions.
- Paid time off package including PTO, floating holidays, volunteer time off, and scheduled company-wide breaks.
- Annual stipends for wellness, outdoor activities, and personal development.
- Opportunities for off-site gatherings, team adventures, and industry-related perks tied to outdoor exploration.
