We are one of the largest producers of frozen at sea cod and pollock, and distributes seafood throughout the world. We manage two trawl catcher-processor vessels that operate in the Bering Sea and off the coast of Washington and Oregon. Come join us with one of the many exciting job opportunities available!
Captains work aboard at-sea processing vessels in the Bering Sea, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Alaska, Aleutian Islands and off the coast of Washington and Oregon. The Captain commands and is responsible for the overall safe operation of the vessel and the conduct of its crew.
Coast Guard License Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel license required: 1600 GT on the Northern Glacier. Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience fishing onboard H&G vessels as Captain or Mate in Alaskan waters.
- Responsible for the safely navigating and maneuvering the vessel using navigational charts, standard navigational aids and electronic bridge equipment including plotters, radar, radios, depth finders and sonars.
- Ensures compliance with COLREGS and Coast Guard Commercial Fishing Vessel requirements.
- Directs fishing operations using knowledge of fishing grounds and workload capacities of vessel and crew. Records daily activities in ship’s log.
- Adheres to fishing plan, managing bycatch and quotas at all times.
- Coordinates and communicates with all Department Heads regularly to ensure all departments are operating efficiently and working together to meet vessel production goals each trip and season.
- Overall responsibility for implementation and support of all company safety and environmental policies and procedures in accordance with the Safety Management System.
- Ensures compliance with applicable sections of the Safety Management System. Is knowledgeable and conversant on applicable policies and procedures contained in the SMS
- Provides direct supervision of all medical and safety activities on board in person or by delegation to other ships officers.
- Ultimate oversight and accountability for all regulatory logs, company safety records, completion of required drills and training, and all applicable regulatory compliance on board the vessel.
- Ensures vessel is ready for USCG/DNV inspections.
- Work 12 hours per day, 7 days a week in all kinds of weather conditions. One trip averages 13-20 days in length dependent on vessel.
- Understand instructions and safety rules in English.
- Board and exit vessel without assistance by climbing up and down a gangway or Jacob's ladder.
- Capable of climbing and descending steep stairs and vertical ladders.
- Able to be away from land-based medical attention for up to 3 months.
- Share spaces with others including crew quarters, dining areas and bathrooms.
- The pay while fishing is crew share based/percentage of catch so no hourly or guaranteed wage. Varies based on fishery, time of year, length of trip and quotas.

Crew are paid a crew share which can range each trip worked. Trip lengths can vary between 13 - 20 days on average depending on fishing conditions. There are a scheduled number of trips the vessel will fish each season based on quota.
