Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Status: Part-Time - Varies
Schedule: Varies
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for safety and supervision of our consumers with Behavioral health histories to facilitate healthy and socially acceptable behaviors while living in community-based sites. This position will coordinate with clinical staff, implement residentially based interventions and assist the clients in achieving their clinical assignments. The DSP is responsible for fulfilling the obligations as outlined in the client’s program plan. The DSP will prompt or assist, as necessary, to ensure the clients participate in the activities of daily living, in both the home and the community. A commitment to the RHD values should be demonstrated as job duties are performed
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Chores/House Maintenance
- Participate in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the physical property to model successful daily living in the community.
- When appropriate, support program participants in developing personalized schedules of maintenance of the physical property to increase their daily living skills.
- Maintain the building repairs logs.
- Maintain a list of needed building repairs to model successful daily living in the community.
- When appropriate, support program participants in repairing items listed in the building repair log as to increase their daily living skills, which build recovery capital.
- Coordinate all house chores and responsibilities.
- When appropriate, support program participants in contributing to house chores where the level of participation will be dependent upon the program participant’s will and ability.
- Support program participants in maintaining daily schedule by employing assertive engagement to motivate them to take part in goal directed activities.
B. Medication and Health Management
- When appropriate, support program participant in developing his/her ability to manage the delivery and pick up of prescriptions and medications.
- Monitor pill count to assure prescriptions are filled in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Log new medication in medication log book.
- When appropriate, assist program participant in developing ability to count pills to assure him/her that the prescriptions are filled accurately.
- Witness program participants self-administration of medications, and log in medication log.
- Assist program participants in attending medical appointments and follow-up on medical recommendations.
- When appropriate, support program participants in developing ability to schedule their medical appointments and follow up on their medical matters.
C. Contribution to Recovery Oriented Environment
- Assist program participants in conflict resolution.
- Provide crisis management.
- Participate in milieu activities.
- Attend and/or facilitate specialty groups and meetings (e.g. meal planning,
- Skills Training Seminars) as assigned by the Director.
- Actively support program participants in facilitating socialization and recreation activities.
- Read log daily and document in log at the end of each shift.
D. Documentation:
- Complete contact notes
- Conduct, facilitate, and document fire drills as assigned by the Director.
E. Other Responsibilities:
- Escort program participants to appointments and shopping as assigned by Director
- Attend staff meeting as assigned.
- Responsibilities assigned by Director to insure continuity of care and foster a recovery oriented environment.
