Description:

SUMMARY:

Maintains, repairs, installs, and troubleshoots production machinery, mechanical equipment, and electrical systems. Fabricates and machines components, structures, tooling, and equipment as required. Performs welding, brazing, and related metalworking functions. Operates and maintains boilers, feed-water systems, and sewage treatment systems in compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structured parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, mig & stick, brazing & cutting torches, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Operates boiler and maintains feed-water quality.
  • Operates a sewerage-treatment [package] system.
  • Follows Lockout/Tagout procedures and all applicable safety requirements

Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties: [Note: Other duties may be assigned.]

  • Installs power-supply wiring and conduit for newly-installed machines and equipment, such as programmable controllers
  • Connects power-supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables between machines and equipment.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken lamps, ballasts, wires and cables.
  • Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers to diagnose malfunction.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays switches and motors, and positions sensing devices.
  • Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electric components, such as printed circuit boards.
  • Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
  • Pushes buttons and presses keys on programmable controller, to program automated machinery, to operate automated machinery and to test for malfunctions, and verify repairs.
  • Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in or out of buildings.
  • Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components or machines, equipment and supply systems.

Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment in establishments, by performing the following duties:

  • Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim.
  • Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions.
  • Replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.
  • Builds cabinets and other wooden equipment in carpenter shop.
  • Installs items, such as window shades, venetian blinds, and curtain rods, wall fans, and door locks for facility.
  • Performs detailed calibration on various measuring devices, such as gauges, scales, and related equipment or components

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Technical certificate, associate degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGULATIONS.

Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license, regular issue. (NOTE: WV does not require commercial operator’s license for vehicles less than 8,000 pounds GVW.) . A WV Master Electricians License. Basic and Advanced vocational training in electronics.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Operates motorized industrial vehicles(s) including, but not limited to lift trucks, utility vehicles, powered lift platforms, 4-wheel drive tractors, and related vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk to hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
