**WE ARE LOOKING FOR 2 PART-TIME POSITIONS TO COVER ALL 7 DAYS/NIGHTS FOR INSPECTIONS**
Position Type: Part-Time (Hourly)
Compensation: $18.00 per hour
Reports To: Fleet Manager
Schedule: Approximately 4:30 PM 8:30 PM (Actual hours may vary based on operational needs.)
Work Environment: This position is performed primarily outdoors and requires working in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow. VDW Logistics will provide the equipment and supplies necessary to safely perform all required duties.
Position Summary
The Fleet Assist is responsible for ensuring every VDW Logistics vehicle is clean, inspected, organized, and prepared for the following days operation. This position performs daily post-route inspections, documents vehicle damage or maintenance concerns, maintains interior vehicle cleanliness, verifies required equipment is present, and assists the Fleet Manager with maintaining a dispatch-ready fleet.
The Fleet Assist serves as the Fleet Managers primary field support position and plays an essential role in maintaining VDW Logistics and Amazon compliance, fleet appearance, and operational readiness.
Essential Responsibilities
Daily Vehicle Inspections
- Perform a complete inspection on every vehicle returning from route each day using company-approved inspection software and procedures.
- Document all vehicle damage, cleanliness issues, and maintenance concerns.
- Photograph vehicle damage when required.
- Immediately report safety concerns or out-of-service vehicles to the Fleet Manager.
- Verify all inspections are completed before leaving each shift.
Vehicle Cleanliness
- Clean the interior of every assigned vehicle each evening.
- Remove trash and debris.
- Vacuum floors as needed.
- Wipe down dashboards, steering wheels, cup holders, door panels, and frequently touched surfaces.
- Ensure vehicles meet VDW Logistics cleanliness standards before the next dispatch.
Vehicle Readiness
- Inspect every parking spot bag and verify required equipment is present, including:
- Phone charger
- Fuel card
- Registration
- Insurance information
- Flashlight (if applicable)
- Safety equipment
- Other company-required items
- Report missing items immediately to the Fleet Manager.
Fleet Organization
- Verify vehicles are parked correctly in assigned parking locations.
- Ensure vehicles are locked and secured at the end of the shift.
- Assist with organizing fleet equipment and storage areas.
- Help maintain inventory of fleet supplies and cleaning materials.
- Restock cleaning supplies as necessary.
Reporting
- Submit accurate inspection reports each day.
- Report vehicle damage immediately.
- Report maintenance concerns requiring repair.
- Escalate safety hazards before the next days dispatch.
- Maintain accurate documentation using company inspection systems.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently walk throughout the parking lot.
- Enter and exit cargo vans repeatedly.
- Bend, kneel, squat, climb, and reach.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Perform duties outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Work around moving vehicles in an active fleet environment.
Qualifications
- Preferred
- Valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.
- Comfortable operating cargo vans.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Reliable attendance.
- Ability to work independently.
- Basic smartphone/tablet proficiency.
- Comfortable using mobile inspection applications.

Success in This Role - A successful Fleet Assistant ensures that:
- Every vehicle is inspected before the end of each shift.
- Every vehicle is clean and ready for dispatch.
- Fleet issues are identified before they become operational problems.
- Missing equipment is replaced promptly.
- The Fleet Manager begins each morning knowing the fleet is organized, documented, and ready for service.
Minor Fleet Maintenance (Additional Skills to Help with getting the Job)
- Install replacement windshield wipers.
- Refill windshield washer fluid.
- Replace vehicle light bulbs when appropriate.
- Assist with preparing vehicles for preventive maintenance appointments.
