Job Summary
The X-Ray Technologist performs diagnostic radiographic imaging exams ordered by treating providers to support the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. This role works directly with patients to ensure proper positioning and imaging quality while following all radiation safety standards in a fast-paced orthopaedic immediate care setting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic X-ray exams per provider orders, following established radiation safety and quality protocols
- Position patients accurately for imaging studies, accounting for injury, pain level, and mobility limitations
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain radiographic equipment; report malfunctions promptly
- Apply ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff
- Review images for technical quality and diagnostic adequacy before submitting to providers
- Accurately document imaging studies and patient information in the EMR/PACS system
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked radiology suite
- Explain procedures to patients and address questions or concerns with compassion
- Assist clinical staff with patient flow during high-volume periods
- Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and facility infection control standards
- Participate in equipment calibration checks and quality assurance activities as required
Education & Certification
- Graduate of an accredited (JRCERT) Radiologic Technology program
- Current ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in good standing, or registry-eligible
- State radiologic technologist license or permit, where required by state law
Experience
- Prior experience in an urgent care, orthopaedic, or outpatient clinic setting preferred
- Experience imaging musculoskeletal injuries (fractures, dislocations) a plus
- Strong knowledge of radiographic positioning, anatomy, and radiation safety
- Comfortable working with patients in acute pain or distress
- Proficient with EMR and PACS systems
- Excellent communication, attention to detail, and time management
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced immediate care environment
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift or assist patients up to 50 lbs using proper body mechanics
- Manual dexterity to operate imaging equipment
- Visual acuity sufficient to read images and equipment displays
- Clinical outpatient immediate care setting
- Periodic exposure to communicable illness and a controlled radiation environment; standard protective equipment provided
