Summary:

Basic Function: Test in-process finished products and stability samples using official microbiology test methods.

Essential Functions:

• Tests and analyzes raw materials, in-process products (bulk), finished products and stability samples according to protocol.
  • APC
  • YM
  • Gram+ and Gram-
  • Preservative Challenge Testing
  • Water and Environment Testing
  • Validation Studies (Cleaning, Methods, Process, Equipment)
  • Growth Promotion
  • All pertaining USP and in-house micro testing protocols
• Develops, validates, and writes test methods.
• Writes reports and fills out forms completely. Submit all completed forms to Microbiology Supervisor for final approval and release as required.
• Prepares and standardizes media and reagents. Maintains proper storage, inventory, and expiration dates.
• Maintains Microbiology records and laboratory notebooks.
• Maintains supplies necessary for the designated area.
• Maintains cleanliness and good housekeeping in work area including proper disposal of waste products.
• Take the following actions when standards are exceeded:
  • Immediately notifies Supervisor of any deviation
  • Reviews possible and probable causes of deviation
  • Recommends steps to be taken to eliminate future deviations
• Recommend improvement of existing standards.
• Maintains and organizes:
  • Daily receipt log
  • Personnel laboratory logbook
  • Media
  • Microbial Organisms
• Ensure proper labeling of samples and equipment
• Assists with physical inventories as requested
• Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

Education and/or Experience: B.S. Microbiology or related science degree. 2 years of related experience.

Skill requirements:

• Must have good visual/organoleptic alertness, microbiology technique and aseptic sampling/transfer, testing media preparation, handling of live bacterial organism.
• Instrumental analysis
• Proficient in computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
