Backup & Disaster Recovery Engineer – IL/IN Region in Northwest Region: Grand Rapids, Michigan at SERVIT INC

Successful candidates will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of backup and disaster recovery systems across all client and internal environments.

This role will act as the primary owner of all backup and data protection services, ensuring that systems are recoverable, validated, and aligned with organizational objectives and compliance requirements.

As a Backup & Disaster Recovery Engineer, you will be responsible for transforming backup services into a standardized, auditable, and highly reliable offering. This includes developing procedures, implementing best practices, and ensuring that all backup systems are regularly validated through testing and reporting.

This is a hands-on engineering role with direct responsibility for the integrity, recoverability, and performance of all protected data systems.

You will be expected to:

• Own all aspects of backup and recovery services.
• Ensure proactive monitoring and issue resolution.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Communicate clearly with clients regarding backup health and recovery readiness.
• Follow company change management policies when implementing updates.
• Maintain accountability across all backup-related incidents and tasks.

Key Skills Required

Minimum of 5+ years of experience in backup, storage, and data protection technologies

• Strong experience with enterprise backup solutions (Veeam preferred).
• Experience with backup architecture, retention policies, and recovery strategies.
• Understanding of disaster recovery concepts and business continuity planning.
• Experience with storage platforms including SAN, NAS, and cloud object storage.
• Ability to perform and validate system restores and recovery testing.

Preferred / Highly Valuable Experience

• Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR).
• Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC).
• SureBackup/automated recovery testing.
• Cloud storage platforms (Wasabi or similar).
• MSP experience supporting multiple client environments.
• Experience with compliance frameworks and audit readiness.

Core Responsibilities (Operational)

• Own design, deployment, and management of all backup systems.
• Monitor backup jobs and ensure successful execution.
• Lead backup failure triage and resolution.
• Perform and document regular restore testing.
• Implement and maintain backup reporting and alerting.
• Standardize onboarding procedures for new client backups.
• Ensure all environments meet recovery objectives (RPO/RTO where applicable).
