Description:

Circuit of The Americas (COTA) is a 365-entertainment destination for world-class events located in Austin, TX. The sports and entertainment portfolio at COTA is unmatched in the country with Formula 1 US Grand Prix, NASCAR and MotoGP attracting global fans during championship races on the famed Circuit and Live Nation producing over 30 headline concerts every year at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. COTALAND is an amusement park with over 30 attractions and experiences, including first-of-their-kind roller coasters.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of their assigned area, including oversight of Supervisors, Team Leads, and frontline team members. This role is the primary management presence in the operation, ensuring consistent execution of safety, service, and performance standards across all shifts.

Requirements:

Essential Functions:

  • Manage daily operations across shifts, ensuring consistency in safety, service, and operational standards throughout the assigned area.
  • Directly supervise Supervisors and Team Leads while providing ongoing coaching, development, and accountability.
  • Develop and manage staff schedules, forecast labor needs, and monitor labor costs against established targets in partnership with the departmental Manager and park Finance team.
  • Assist in hiring decisions for the assigned area, including leading interviews, evaluating candidates, and extending offers in partnership with the departmental Manager and Human Resources.
  • Own the corrective action process in partnership with departmental Manager: determine the appropriate level of action, draft and issue formal verbal or written warnings and performance improvement plans.
  • Conduct formal performance evaluations for direct reports and provide input on evaluations for frontline team members.
  • Oversee training program execution for the assigned area, including identifying needs, tracking completion and certifications, and evaluating training effectiveness.
  • Respond to and resolve complex or escalated guest and team member situations that exceed Supervisor authority.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and hold teams accountable in a high-volume, guest-facing operation.
  • Sound judgment in making real-time people and operational decisions under pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document performance issues clearly and conduct difficult conversations professionally.
  • Working knowledge of employment practices including scheduling, corrective action, and hiring processes.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions including Texas summer heat.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships across departments and levels of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory or management role with direct responsibility for people-related decisions (hiring, corrective action, performance management) in a guest-facing, hospitality, entertainment, or attractions environment.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and peak operating periods.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and be on feet for extended periods (up to 10 hours).
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in theme park, attractions, or large-venue operations.
  • Experience managing in a pre-opening or startup environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
