Occupational Medicine Advanced Practice Provider

  • Position Summary
    • Occupational Medicine Advance Practice Providers integrate job-specific health and safety with comprehensive, general primary care to manage a worker's total well-being. In this dual role, they treat acute workplace injuries, perform specialized fitness-for-duty exams, and design return-to-work plans while simultaneously managing chronic general health conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and mental health struggles. By connecting workplace hazards with a patient's overall medical history, they provide personalized counseling on safe ergonomics, preventative screening, and lifestyle modifications. Furthermore, they coordinate seamless transitions of care, facilitating referrals to medical specialists, physical therapists, or community social services whenever a patient's complex occupational or general health needs require advanced intervention.

  • Education
    • Masters of Nursing - Preferred
  • Experience
    • 1 Year Working as a physician extender - Preferred
    • New graduates will be given consideration
  • License & Certification
    • Professional License with State of Practice - Required
    • Advance Practice License (NP or PA) - Required
    • National Certification (i.e. ANCC, AANPCP or NCCPA) - Required
  • Core Job Functions
    • Acute Injury & Illness Management: Diagnose and treat workplace injuries (e.g., lacerations, exposures, musculoskeletal strains) alongside general acute illnesses.
    • Chronic Disease Care: Manage ongoing primary care conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and mental health struggles to optimize the worker's total health.
    • Regulatory & Fitness Exams: Perform mandated screenings and evaluations, including DOT exams, OSHA surveillance, fitness-for-duty, and pre-employment physicals.
    • Return-to-Work Coordination: Evaluate injured employees to determine safe physical restrictions, modified duties, and eventual full clearance.
    • Patient Education & Preventative Counseling: Guide patients and families on workplace safety, ergonomics, lifestyle modifications, chronic disease management, and advanced directives.
    • Care Coordination & Referrals: Facilitate referrals to medical specialists, physical therapy, or community social agencies for complex occupational or general health needs.
    • Collaborative Compliance: Partner with supervising physicians, employers, and insurance case managers to navigate workers' compensation regulations and workplace wellness program.
