Wean to Finish Lead Swine Technician in Emmetsburg, Iowa at Passel Farms

Position Summary: This position is responsible for daily pig care, weekend chore rotation, load in/out, power washing, and maintenance at Passel Farms owned and managed facilities. Also, this position oversees swine grow-finish production of managed and owned facilities of Passel Farms, as directed by the Wean to Finish Manager, ensuring that swine production is executed in accordance with protocols and procedures established by management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Directs and participates in the execution of protocols and procedures necessary for accurate and timely feed ordering.
• Prepares building/s to be ready to accommodate wean pigs (i.e. mats, brooders, starter feed
• Assists in initial count, sort, and grading of pigs arriving to ensure pigs are sorted correctly according to size and health and approving/adjusting health and feeding plan.
• Follows protocols and procedures set by the Manager.
• Ensures proper environment for pig health and performance.
• Orders and administers medications, vaccinations, and supplies.
• Keeps site expenses under control through timely repair, maintenance, and minimized waste.
• Keeps office area clean and organized.
• Does general farm maintenance, site care, manure control, and informs the Manager of major repairs needed for the site.
• Maintains and updates all records as required and meet all deadlines.
• Immediate response to alarm conditions.
• Power washes and disinfects between groups including the loading chutes.
• Timely completion of the minimum Wean to Finish expectations list.
• Prioritizes workload.
• Able to use Barn Vista and any other reports necessary for reporting
• Maintains PQA+ certification.
• Completes safety training timely.
• Follows all Animal Welfare policies and practices and informs management of any violations by staff.
• Follows bio-security measures according to Bio-Security Policy, including animal movement, visitor access, sanitation, and disease prevention measures.
• Follows all safety rules and practices and ensures others do the same.
• Supports, promotes, and adheres to policies, procedures, and values of Passel Farms and industry standards.
• Regular, punctual and consistent attendance is essential for this position.
• Other duties as may be assigned to fulfill responsibilities of this position and support team goals.

Qualification: One year of livestock experience with High School Diploma/GED preferred. *Qualifications may differ for visa sponsored - see HR for current information. Able to work with a variety of personalities and live animals. A qualifying insurable driver’s license must be maintained to drive on behalf of the company. The company provided vehicle is for business purposes only. A personal cell phone is required with a monthly reimbursement stipend set by the company.

Work Environment: This position takes place in swine facilities in rural areas. Hours of work are generally scheduled around good livestock husbandry needs as well as during regular business hours. This position requires the ability to respond to animal needs and does include non-traditional hours, weekends, or holidays based on production schedules and operational needs. There will be some variation in work hours due to animal care and health, weather, employee shift schedules, special projects, and other concerns. Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas.
