Job Description

Full-Stack Engineer (Backend Leaning) - Platform Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Full-Stack Engineer (Backend Leaning) – Platform Engineering based in United States.

As a Full-Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus, you will help build the foundational systems that power a suite of innovative AI products used by millions of people and businesses worldwide. You will contribute to essential platform capabilities, including user management, workspaces, authentication, permissions, and resource access. Depending on your team, you will either improve customer-facing experiences or develop scalable internal services that enable engineering teams to build products securely and efficiently. Working across backend services and frontend interfaces, you will solve complex technical challenges and deliver reliable solutions in a high-growth, AI-first environment. You will take ownership of features from initial scoping through implementation, deployment, and ongoing maintenance, with support from experienced engineers. This remote opportunity offers significant technical autonomy, challenging engineering problems, and the chance to shape the infrastructure behind next-generation AI applications.

Accountabilities:
  • Develop core platform capabilities: Design, build, and maintain foundational systems for user management, workspaces, permissions, and resource access that support multiple products and engineering teams.
  • Improve customer-facing experiences: Build and enhance API key management, login flows, analytics, administrative tools, workspace security, and other features that customers use directly.
  • Deliver full-stack features: Own product functionality end to end, from backend services and APIs to administrative dashboards, settings pages, and other user-facing interfaces.
  • Build scalable permission and resource services: Design reusable authorization and resource-management systems that enable product teams to implement features securely, efficiently, and consistently.
  • Solve complex platform challenges: Address large-scale engineering problems, including managing access and permissions for customers with extensive organizational structures and large numbers of resources.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work closely with Product, Sales, Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs), customer-facing teams, and other engineering groups to understand requirements and translate feedback into practical improvements.
  • Drive platform adoption: Develop reusable services and introduce changes that allow engineering teams to adopt new capabilities without extensive modifications to their existing code.
  • Plan and execute safe migrations: Evaluate existing systems, identify dependencies and potential rollout risks, determine when migrations are necessary, and implement changes with minimal disruption.
  • Maintain reliability and security: Apply strong engineering practices to ensure that business-critical platform services remain secure, reliable, and consistent as products and usage scale.
  • Debug and operate production systems: Investigate issues using customer reports, logs, and code, identify root causes, and implement effective fixes for the systems you own.
  • Take ownership from concept to delivery: Scope ambiguous problems, prioritize competing needs, make informed technical decisions, and drive projects through implementation and ongoing improvement.
  • Contribute to engineering excellence: Collaborate with experienced engineers, share knowledge, and help establish reusable patterns and dependable infrastructure across the organization.
Requirements:
  • Strong Python expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in Python and the ability to develop reliable, maintainable, and efficient backend services.
  • Backend engineering experience: A strong background in backend development, with the flexibility and confidence to contribute to frontend development when required.
  • Software and system design knowledge: Solid understanding of common software architecture and design patterns, APIs, cloud infrastructure tools, storage solutions, and data structures.
  • Testing and security fundamentals: Strong knowledge of test design, automated testing practices, application security, and building robust production systems.
  • Experience with complex systems: The ability to learn a large existing codebase quickly, understand system dependencies, and make careful changes to live, business-critical infrastructure.
  • Technical ownership: The ability to take responsibility for features throughout their lifecycle, from problem definition and design to deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: Confidence in defining problems, determining what needs to be built, evaluating competing priorities, and making sound decisions with incomplete information.
  • Reliability-focused mindset: Strong attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of safe rollouts, backward compatibility, security, and minimizing disruption to existing users and systems.
  • Problem-solving ability: A structured, analytical approach to tackling challenging technical problems and developing scalable, reusable solutions.
  • Collaboration and communication: The ability to work effectively with engineers, product teams, and customer-facing stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver meaningful improvements.
  • Flexible qualification criteria: No formal degree, certification, or specific number of years of professional experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate their engineering ability through challenging projects, practical accomplishments, or GitHub contributions.

The following qualifications are considered an advantage:

  • Experience with authentication, authorization, and permission-management technologies, such as OAuth, single sign-on (SSO), System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM), or role-based access control (RBAC).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
  • Experience building internal platforms, shared infrastructure, or reusable services consumed by other engineering teams.
  • Experience designing scalable systems that support complex enterprise requirements, organizational hierarchies, and fine-grained access controls.
Benefits:
  • Remote-first flexibility: Work remotely from Germany or other eligible locations across Europe, Ireland, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, subject to hiring eligibility.
  • International office access: The option to work from offices in Dublin, London, New York, San Francisco, or Warsaw.
  • Professional development budget: Receive an annual discretionary stipend to support learning, training, and career development.
  • Monthly coworking allowance: Access a coworking stipend if you are not located near one of the main office hubs.
  • Annual social travel stipend: Receive financial support to meet colleagues in person and build professional relationships.
  • Company-wide offsite: Participate in an annual team gathering at a different destination each year.
  • Innovative engineering culture: Work in an AI-first environment that values rapid experimentation, technical excellence, autonomy, and minimal bureaucracy.
  • Career growth opportunities: Explore opportunities to expand your responsibilities, contribute across teams, and develop your technical expertise.
  • Technical mentorship: Work alongside experienced engineers who provide support and guidance while encouraging independent ownership.
  • Meaningful engineering impact: Build foundational systems that underpin AI products and enable millions of users and businesses to interact with technology.
  • Global collaboration: Join an international team of engineers, researchers, and operators working together across multiple locations.
