SDS Rx Director of Lightspeed Operations
The Director of Lightspeed Operations has a national salary range of $150,000 - $200,000.

The Director of Lightspeed Operations is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational excellence, financial performance, and growth of a high-volume urban delivery network. This executive leader oversees all aspects of foot messenger and last-mile delivery operations with a mix of W2 and IC workforce. Keys are ensuring exceptional customer service, industry-leading delivery performance, and sustainable business growth.
The role requires strong leadership in workforce management, route optimization, customer relationships, technology adoption, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. This role will lead a diverse team of operations managers, dispatchers, couriers, supervisors, and support personnel serving corporate, retail, healthcare, legal, and e-commerce customers throughout a densely populated city environment.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the company's last-mile delivery strategy to support revenue growth and operational excellence.
- Establish long-term operational plans aligned with customer demands and market opportunities.
- Lead expansion initiatives into new delivery zones, services, and customer segments.
- Drive innovation through technology, automation, and process improvements.
- Lead and Support new sales opportunities for the market.
Operations Management
- Oversee daily city-wide delivery operations, including foot messenger, and same-day delivery services.
- Ensure achievement of service-level agreements (SLAs), delivery commitments, and customer expectations.
- Monitor delivery productivity, route efficiency, service quality, and operational performance.
- Develop contingency plans for peak volume periods, severe weather, traffic disruptions, and emergency situations.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Operations management team
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Establish workforce planning strategies to ensure adequate staffing and resource utilization.
- Create succession plans and talent development programs.
Financial Accountability
- Manage full P&L responsibility for the last-mile delivery operation.
- Develop annual operating budgets and strategic business plans.
- Monitor labor costs, transportation expenses, technology investments, and operational profitability.
- Identify and execute cost-reduction initiatives without compromising service quality.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with key customers.
- Participate in contract negotiations, business reviews, and service improvement initiatives.
- Address escalated customer concerns and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with sales teams to support customer acquisition and retention efforts.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
- Oversee risk management programs, incident investigations, and corrective action processes.
- Ensure compliance with labor regulations and company policies.
Performance Management
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational scorecards.
- Analyze operational data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Aid in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive measurable improvements in productivity, quality, service, and profitability.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, required
- MBA or equivalent, preferred
- 7+ years of experience within supply chain, required
- Experience as a management consultant or in a strategic role within a supply chain function, preferred
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in logistics, transportation, courier services, last-mile delivery, or supply chain operations, preferred
- 5+ years leading large-scale urban delivery operations, required
- Experience high-volume delivery networks, required
- Proven success managing large frontline workforces and leadership teams, required
- Demonstrated P&L management experience, required
