Job Description

Staff Cloud Networking Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Cloud Networking Engineer based in the United States.

This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role responsible for defining and owning the cloud networking foundation that enables all product and platform teams to operate at scale. You will serve as the first dedicated networking specialist, shaping architecture decisions that move from organically grown infrastructure to a deliberate, modern, cloud-native design. The work is deeply technical, spanning AWS networking, IPv6-native architectures, and multi-account connectivity patterns. You will play a central role in building and scaling a resilient, secure, and future-proof network layer across cloud environments. Beyond execution, you will set standards, define best practices, and elevate networking maturity across the entire engineering organization. This is an opportunity to combine deep infrastructure expertise with true architectural ownership in a fast-scaling environment.

Accountabilities:

Own and evolve the organization’s cloud networking architecture, establishing scalable standards and designing the next-generation foundation for multi-cloud connectivity and growth. Drive the implementation of IPv6-native infrastructure, including VPC design, IPAM strategy, and IPv6 enablement for Kubernetes workloads such as EKS, ensuring reliability and consistency across environments.

  • Architect and implement AWS networking foundations, including VPCs, routing, transit connectivity, and private networking design
  • Lead IPv6 adoption efforts, including design, rollout, and troubleshooting across production systems
  • Define long-term multi-cloud networking strategy and interconnectivity patterns across providers
  • Establish IP addressing, DNS, and network segmentation standards across engineering teams
  • Own Kubernetes/EKS networking architecture, including CNI behavior, pod/service addressing, and ingress routing
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or equivalent) for networking systems
  • Set technical direction and standards while mentoring engineers and improving organization-wide networking maturity
  • Partner with platform and security teams to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant network design
Requirements:

This role requires deep, hands-on expertise in cloud networking, particularly within AWS, combined with strong foundational knowledge of networking principles that apply across environments. You should be comfortable operating as the go-to authority in a domain that spans infrastructure, platform engineering, and distributed systems.

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud or network engineering roles with significant ownership of production systems
  • Deep expertise in AWS networking (VPCs, Transit Gateway, routing, peering, IPAM, private connectivity)
  • Strong understanding of core networking concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, NAT, subnetting (IPv4 and IPv6)
  • Proven hands-on experience designing and deploying IPv6 in production environments
  • Experience with Kubernetes networking, ideally in EKS environments
  • Strong Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform or similar) in production settings
  • Ability to define technical direction, influence without authority, and lead cross-team architectural decisions
  • Comfort operating as the first specialist in a domain and building standards from the ground up
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex networking tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred experience:

  • Multi-cloud networking and interconnectivity design
  • AWS Organizations, landing zones, or multi-account networking structures
  • Network security, compliance, and segmentation at scale
  • AWS Advanced Networking certification or equivalent expertise
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary with location-based compensation structure
  • Performance-based bonuses or equity participation (where applicable)
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible work arrangements with remote-first culture
  • Opportunity to define and build a foundational engineering function from the ground up
  • High autonomy and ownership over critical infrastructure decisions
  • Professional growth in advanced cloud networking and multi-cloud architecture
  • Collaborative engineering culture focused on technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
