South Hills Interfaith Movement’s (SHIM) mission is to mobilize community resources and implement sustainable programs that compassionately help neighbors meet basic needs, achieve self-sufficiency, and build community. SHIM provides food, clothing, financial aid, education, family support, and a host of other services to 8,500 people in need in Pittsburgh’s southern suburban neighborhoods. In response to the unique challenges faced by the local refugee and immigrant population, SHIM operates programming designed to support children and families in this demographic.

Job Summary:
The Family & Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for engaging South Hills Family Center parents and community members, developing and evaluating client-driven programming, and developing advocacy strategies in order to deliver the best service possible to clients. Programming should meet the variable needs of the community with a particular focus on life skills and community building.
Location & Work Arrangement
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule following successful completion of the introductory employment period. Hybrid schedules are determined based on organizational needs, job responsibilities, and supervisor approval. This role does have occasional evening and weekend hours.
Essential Functions:
· Engage parents and community members in educational, vocational, and leadership-based skills development through programming and group activities.
· Assist the site director in managing collaborative initiatives and partnerships to bring programming and resources to center families.
· Connect individuals with appropriate community resources. Facilitate support groups on-site and work to develop and maintain relationships with local service providers for referral purposes.
· Assist with ongoing assessment of all Family Center based activities.
· Develop and manage the Parent Advisory Council.
· Develop and implement programs to engage new and waiting families in the Family Center.
· Develop outreach plan for underrepresented demographic segments at the Family Center.
· Engage community members in advocacy efforts at local, regional, and State levels where appropriate.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Qualifications:
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and private agencies, colleagues, and participants.
· Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Strong computer skills that include Microsoft Office tools, basic computer software, and the internet.
· Must possess initiative, productivity, creativity and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work as a team member, with energy, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task.
· Sensitivity to the needs of a multi-cultural community.
· Knowledge of social service systems in Allegheny County.
· Understand and comply with the policy of a Mandated Reporter.
· Ability and willingness to work evening and occasional weekend hours.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of related full-time experience (8 years if part-time experience). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered (Social Work, Counseling, Education, Human Development or related field)
Supervisory Responsibility:
· None
Clearance Requirements:
· Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History (PATCH) through the Pennsylvania State Police
· Pennsylvania Child Abuse History (PACA) through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services
· FBI Criminal History Background Check (FBI Fingerprint); requires the individual to submit their fingerprints to the FBI and have the background check run through the PA State Police’s designated agencies
· NSOR
· Mandated Reporter Training
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Prolonged periods of standing during events and activities.
· Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
· Reliable, independent transportation
