Job Description

Established in 1926, Family Service League is a social services agency who provides comprehensive services to individuals, children, and families to improve the quality of their lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. SUMMARY:

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Supervisor for their Healthy Families Profram located in Bay Shore, NY.The Supervisor oversees staff and works with at risk infants and their families in Healthy Families Suffolk is a home visiting program that offers home-based services to expectant families and new parents, beginning prenatally or shortly after the birth of the child. Services include helping families’ access community resources and services, educating families on parenting and child development, connecting families with medical providers, and assessing children for developmental delays.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct regular supervision of direct service staff (Family Support/Resource Specialists) with a minimum of one and a half hours/week at a set time for each worker; two hours recommended.
  • Provide staff with the necessary skills development to continually improve the quality of their performance and hold them accountable for the quality their work.
  • Support direct service staff with promoting parent child interaction, child development, and family strengths.
  • Review and approve assessment and home visit narratives, providing feedback and documentation.
  • Review individual performance targets and home visiting rate with staff and assist staff in achieving these targets.
  • Review and approve case documentation.
  • Carry out quarterly quality assurance activities, including observations of home visits and assessments, case file reviews, and participant surveys.
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and training of direct service staff.
  • Assist in developing site-specific policies, procedures, and protocols as needed to carry out project activities and objectives.
  • Participate in Healthy Families conferences, outreach, seminars, in-service trainings, and family events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in human services or fields related to working with children and families, or bachelor’s degree in these fields with three years of relevant experience, or less than a bachelor’s degree but with commensurate HFA experience required.

A solid understanding of or experience in supervising diverse staff with humility, as well as providing support to staff in stressful work environments required.

Knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment required.

Experience with family services which embrace the concepts of family-centered and strengths-based service provision required.

Knowledge of parent-infant health and dynamics of child abuse and neglect required.

Experience supporting culturally diverse communities/families required.

Experience in home visiting with a strong background in early childhood prevention services preferred.

Experience with reflective practice preferred.

Bilingual Spanish, strongly preferred.

Must have valid driver's license, insurance and vehicle.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office and client home based work with frequent sitting, standing, writing and computer usage.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and move through a facility and a home.
  • Moderate reaching, bending, stooping kneeling or crouching.
  • The position includes interaction with children that could include picking up a child as heavy as 40 pounds.
  • The nature of the position involves a fast paced working environment with multitasking of many different duties and tasks. General daily priorities may change at a moment’s notice and the position requires quick response time and flexibility.
