All Blender positions begin with a 2-week training period. Upon successful completion of training, employees move to a full Somafina position with an immediate pay increase, as reflected above.

Blender Essential Responsibilities
  • Sets up and operates electro-mechanical machinery such as sifters and blenders of diverse volume capacities.
  • Inspects materials for any foreign objects that may adulterate the batch.
  • Follows the blending instructions that are placed on the batch record.
  • Follows work instructions to perform each process step per set standards of health/quality, efficiency and safety.
  • Uses scales and computers to collect and record information, such as weight, batch code, time of blend, if intensifier bar is needed, and amount of barrels produced.
  • Investigates if product yield is not met and reports, in writing, a reasonable justification.
  • Uses hand tools for the assembly and disassembly of removable machine parts.
  • Uses cleaning tools and sanitation substances to prepare room and equipment per public health standards of food products.
  • Keeps cleaning tools and substances outside blending rooms and maintains them clean, pure, and in good order.

  • Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competencies / Skill Qualifications
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic computer skills to input data into the database.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • This position requires the employee to obtain and maintain a current food handler's permit.
  • Written and spoken English proficiency required.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and converse and listen.
  • The employee must exert up to 99 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 40 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity, far acuity, accommodation, color vision, and field of vision.
