Job Description
The Driveshaft Shop is seeking a mechanically skilled Driveshaft Balancing Technician to join our Driveshaft Production team in Salisbury, North Carolina.
The primary focus of this position is dynamically balancing metal and carbon-fiber driveshafts using specialized equipment, including Hines and high-speed balancing machines. The technician will identify and correct vibration, runout, alignment, and balance conditions to ensure each driveshaft meets our quality and performance standards.
This role also performs light manual machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, and repair work as needed. Experience with driveshaft balancing is preferred, but candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and related experience in rotating equipment, automotive or driveline repair, precision measurement, welding, or manual machining are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate driveshaft balancing equipment, including Hines and high-speed balancing machines.
- Dynamically balance 2-, 3-, and 4-support driveshafts.
- Identify the magnitude and location of imbalance conditions.
- Correct imbalances by adding approved balance weights or removing material.
- Measure and verify runout, alignment, fitment, and balance using dial indicators, gauges, calipers, and other precision tools.
- Troubleshoot vibration, bent tubes, worn components, improper phasing, fitment concerns, and other driveline issues.
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble driveshaft components, including tubes, yokes, flanges, U-joints, bearings, and slip assemblies.
- Perform welding or tack-welding related to balance weights and approved repairs when trained and authorized.
- Operate manual lathes, mills, and drill presses for component modifications and repairs as needed.
- Create and maintain accurate balancing reports and production documentation.
- Communicate quality, tooling, equipment, and workflow concerns to the appropriate team members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Support production priorities, repair work, rework, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
Accurate driveshaft balancing is critical to product performance, customer satisfaction, and safe high-speed operation. This position directly supports first-pass quality, reduces vibration and rework, and helps keep metal and carbon driveshaft production moving efficiently.

Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
- Previous experience with balancing equipment, rotating equipment, automotive repair, driveline components, welding, machining, fabrication, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Ability to use dial indicators, calipers, gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, production instructions, safety procedures, balancing reports, and basic shop drawings.
- Basic math skills, including measurement conversions and interpreting tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Willingness to learn related driveshaft production, balancing, repair, and machining processes.
- High school diploma or GED preferred. Relevant technical training or equivalent hands-on experience may be considered.
Preferred Experience:
- Driveshaft or driveline balancing and repair.
- Hines or other dynamic balancing equipment.
- Driveshaft tubes, yokes, flanges, U-joints, bearings, slip assemblies, and phasing.
- MIG or TIG welding.
- Manual lathe, mill, or drill press operation.
- Automotive, industrial, heavy-equipment, or rotating-equipment repair.
- Technical school, vocational, machining, welding, or automotive training.
- Forklift, welding, machining, or related manufacturing certification.
Schedule:
- Full-time position.
- Standard production hours.
- Overtime may be required based on production needs.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift.
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, and arms for balancing, measuring, assembly, and tool operation.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with team lifting or mechanical assistance.
- Ability to work safely around rotating equipment, balancing machines, manual machining equipment, welding activity, and heavy components.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including eye and hearing protection.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include moderate-to-loud noise, grease, oil, metal components, sparks, seasonal heat, and humidity.
