Job Description
Love to cook—but not looking for a traditional full-time restaurant schedule?
Girl Scouts Louisiana East is seeking a dependable, experienced Part-Time Camp Cook to prepare meals for excited young campers at beautiful Camp Marydale in St. Francisville, LA.
This could be a great opportunity for a retired cook, school food-service worker, experienced home cook with professional food-service experience, or someone whose schedule allows for intermittent work throughout the day. Depending on the camp session, you may be scheduled to prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a combination of meals.
You will have breaks between meal periods rather than working one continuous restaurant-style shift. Because camp schedules vary, this role is best suited for someone with limited competing obligations who can be flexible when camp sessions are scheduled.
Why You May Love This Job
- Cook for enthusiastic girls enjoying a memorable camp experience.
- Use your food-service skills in a fun, mission-driven setting.
- Work only during scheduled sessions.
- Enjoy a varied schedule based on breakfast, lunch, and dinner needs.
- Work in a camp kitchen rather than a fast-paced commercial restaurant.
- Make a meaningful contribution without committing to a traditional year-round schedule.
What You’ll Do (overview)
- Prepare and serve some or all: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, according to the approved menu and camp schedule.
- Make sure meals are ready and served on time.
- Accommodate documented dietary needs for campers and staff.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.
- Wash dishes and cookware and complete routine kitchen cleanup.
- Properly store food and follow food-safety requirements.
- Maintain refrigerator, dishwasher, inventory, menu, and cleaning records.
- Prepare food and supply baskets for camp-unit cookouts.
- Help monitor food and kitchen-supply needs.
- Create a welcoming dining experience for campers and staff.
Assignments may include:
- Early-morning breakfast preparation
- Midday lunch preparation
- Afternoon or evening dinner preparation
- More than one meal period during the same day
- Occasional weekend camp sessions
There may be substantial breaks between meal periods. Applicants should have the flexibility to return for later meal preparation when scheduled.
What You’ll Need (minimum requirements)
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least one year of food-service experience.
- Food-safety certification or willingness to obtain it.
- Experience preparing meals for groups.
- Dependability and the ability to work independently.
- A positive attitude and interest in supporting young people.
- Ability to maintain food-safety, sanitation, and kitchen records.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Turn your love of cooking into something meaningful—help give young campers the energy they need for days filled with friendship, learning, and adventure!
