About This Position
Business Services- Payroll invites applications for an Accounting Associate IV to process invoices and payables pertaining to payroll liabilities utilizing university systems to include but not limited to, unions, child support/garnishments, campus deductions and federal and state tax deposits as necessary for each payroll cycle.
- Prepare, verify accuracy, and distribute Bi-Weekly/Monthly deduction reports to vendors and campus partners
- Report retirement/ pension contributions and earnings for the University of Montana’s three retirement entities
- Responsible for any additional taxable fringe benefits such as; moving expenses, meal reimbursements, housing allowances and any other miscellaneous non-cash transactions
- Ensures that the University of Montana is in compliance with all laws in regard to the employment of Foreign Nationals
- Maintain a database of special tax circumstances pertaining to Foreign National and out of state employees
- Will process the deposit weekly for any incoming payments
- Assist the Finance Manager with administering payroll audits, deduction and liability account reconciliations, and research projects
- Calculate, print and enter manual checks in Banner to correct payroll errors. Will also assist with overpayment re-calculations and help with repayment options
- Responsible for processing payroll transactions that affect the State Treasury such as EFT Rejects, Warrant Replacement Requests, Stale-Date Warrants, and Warrant Cancellations
- Associate's degree in accounting or two (2) years of advanced payroll experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to pay close attention to detail to ensure the highest level of accuracy
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to effectively write professional memos, letters, emails, documents, and reports
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and reconcile data in a variety of formats
- Organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills
- Experience with creating spreadsheets and databases in order to utilize information for tracking and analysis
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service, while clearly explaining complex information
- Experience with maintaining strict confidentiality
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with business contacts to ensure compliance with complex set of regulations

- Related work in higher education or large institution
Position Number: 013510
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
