Description: Employment Status:Full timeShift:Any Day, Any Shift (United States of America)Facility:2301 Brambleton Ave SW - RoanokeRequisition Number:R154508 Fire and Life Safety Consultant (Open)How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:The Fire and Life Safety Consultant manages the “Above Ceiling Permit” process as well as monitoring and managing code related to firestopping and fireproofing to ensure compliance in facilities considered as part of the Carilion Medical Center Campus and may consult with other Carilion community hospitals. The consultant ensures compliance with NFPA Life Safety code, International Building Code, International Fire Code, Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, Americans with Disabilities Act, OSHA regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Subject matter expert for code compliance for new and existing projects impacting fire and life safety.
  • Manage projects related to fire protection features including large-scale projects such as full-building fire alarm upgrades within CMC.
  • Manages required firestopping, cabling projects, and related fire-resistant construction.
  • Develops, maintains, and coordinates the Above Ceiling Permitting Program.
  • Negotiates and ensures compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Oversees testing and inspection of standpipes, fire doors, exit signs, fire alarms, routes of egress, smoke alarms, fire extinguishing systems at frequencies as required by fire codes. Manage all related documentation.
  • Regularly inspects facilities for Life Safety code compliance not limited to Fire Safety in support of an annual CMC Life Safety Assessment and The Joint Commission survey. Accompany local and state Fire Marshal’s office code inspectors during facility inspections and manage follow-up activities.
  • Reviews and maintains life safety plans in accordance with the current Life Safety Code.
  • Coordinates and executes quarterly fire drills at CMC.
  • Provides education to CMC staff fire and life safety (e.g. fire extinguisher use).
  • Creates a safe working environment while providing opportunities to develop maximum potential.
  • Holds self and team accountable for maintaining the highest possible performance standards in order to serve internal and external customers (e.g. patients, visitors, employees, physicians, colleagues, community partners, regulatory organizations, etc.). Develops collaborative relationships and facilitates professional growth and development.
  • Defines performance measures and monitors/evaluates progress made toward measurable customer satisfaction criteria.
  • Collaboratively implements programs and best practices to continuously enhance customer satisfaction.
What We Require:

Education: Bachelors degree required in related field or, in lieu of education, minimum 5 years of experience required.
Experience: Minimum 5 years related experience with emphasis in fire service or protection.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: NICET Level II Certification preferred. Fit Level II from STI Firestop within 1 year.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a driving record within the scope of Carilions Driver Regulations. Must be a team player, have a strong sense of integrity, be approachable, and demonstrate a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and energy. Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar computer applications required.
