About This Position

Position Summary:
The Range Safety Officer will be responsible for the BB gun range. They will work with other members of the support staff to plan, teach, coordinate, and carry out activities. They will assist with integrating the principles of the Girl Scout program into camp activities. Range Safety Officer must commit to leading, by example and leading staff to plan, teach, coordinate, and carry out activities. The Range Safety Officer must commit to lead by example and live by the Girl Scout Law. This Range Safety Officer will facilitate and lead all shooting sport areas on camp. They will assist in other programming as assigned. This can include, outdoor skills, crafts, nature programming.

Essential Requirements:
This position requires registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
Must be Willing to live on site and be on call in case of emergencies.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Currently hold or willingness to obtain archery level 2 certification
Currently hold or willingness to obtain Range Safety Officer certification
Gun safety or hunters' safety course completion.
CPR & 1st Aid Certification
Prior camp experience preferred or working with youth.
Be able to evaluate hand eye coordination skills at all levels and supervise campers.
Good judgement in anticipating and preventing accidents.
Be able to act calmly, quickly, and give and/or follow directions during an emergency.
Knowledge of safety practices as applicable.
Must be ready and able to communicate well with girls and staff and be flexible about programming options.

Key Responsibilities: To incorporate opportunities for teaching courage, confidence, and character during daily interaction with campers and staff.
• To facilitate archery, sling shots, axe throwing, and BB guns while at overnight camp.
• To become familiar with the age groups served and Girl Scout programming to develop and run age-appropriate shooting sport activities.
• To submit supply requests in a timely manner.
• To clean and organize supplies and equipment at both the start and end of camp.
• To keep all shooting sport areas and supplies, organized, and well-maintained daily.
• To keep a properly stocked first aid kit in winterberry and discovery center at all times.
• To actively participate in pre-camp staff training by providing training for camp staff on how to request supplies from the arts and nature center and how to use them in their age specific cabin group programming.
• To provide shooting sport related skill builder programs for campers that. Provide each camper with a shooting sport fun patch.
• To run free-choice activity sessions as needed.
• To provide age-appropriate program content in coordination with the program supervisor for age specific evening activities.
• To submit a post camp evaluation of activities including successes, failures and recommendations for the future.
• Support and supervise Unit Counselors in all capacities, including Day-to-day operations, schedules, and routines; camper behavioral management; delegating tasks and managing appropriate workloads and time off; ensure a positive atmosphere and well-being for all campers and Unit Counselors; and recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in a group setting.
• Participate in all camp activities and provide support at check-in & check-out.
• To reside in a lodge and provide support for cabin groups as needed.
• Supervise mealtimes.
• Carry out other non-essential duties as delegated by the assistant camp director including assisting staff in other cabins, assisting in the office, assisting in the kitchen, and assisting with camp programs or events.
• Assist in the opening and closing of camp
• Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used: Daisy Red Rider BB guns, slingshots, 12lbs recurve bow, walkie-talkies

Physical Activities: Walking, hiking, running, climbing, swimming, biking, kneeling, laying on stomach, driving,

Physical Demands: Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time during range sessions. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to walk long distances up to 3.5 miles a day.

Software: Microsoft Office Suite; Microsoft Outlook or equivalent calendaring systems

Visual Acuity Required: Moderate Acuity: Preparing and analyzing data and figures using computer.

Work Conditions Activities occur both in an indoor and outdoor environment. Primarily outdoor environments.
