We are seeking a skilled Arborist and Grounds Maintenance Technician to join our local government team. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of our community's trees and green spaces. The ideal candidate will have a passion for arboriculture, strong technical skills in grounds maintenance, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular inspections of trees within public areas to assess health, identify diseases, and determine maintenance needs.
  • Perform pruning, trimming, and shaping of trees using appropriate tools and techniques to promote growth and maintain safety.
  • Assess and mitigate tree risks, including removals when necessary, adhering to municipal guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Plant and transplant trees and shrubs as part of landscaping projects or urban forestry initiatives.
  • Maintain records of tree inventory, maintenance activities, and pest management efforts.
  • Collaborate with other departments and community stakeholders on tree preservation and urban forestry projects.
  • Assist with general grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and litter collection in parks, public gardens, and municipal facilities.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (relevant certifications or coursework in arboriculture, horticulture, or related fields preferred).
  • Proven experience as an arborist or grounds maintenance technician, with at least 2 years of practical experience in tree care and landscaping.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools used in arboriculture and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of tree species identification, diseases, pests, and treatment methods.
  • Ability to climb trees safely and work at heights using aerial lifts and other equipment.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with the public and fellow team members.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ISA Certified Arborist credential or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with urban forestry management practices and tree inventory software.
  • Knowledge of local regulations and best practices related to tree care and maintenance.
Working Conditions:
  • This position involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions and may require occasional weekend or evening hours for emergency response or special projects.
  • The role may involve lifting heavy objects, operating machinery, and working at heights.
