POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position title: City Engineer
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $93,030 - $162,500
The City of Summit is seeking an experienced and collaborative professional to serve as City Engineer. This leadership position is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing municipal engineering projects and providing technical guidance to City officials, boards, staff, and the community.
The successful candidate will oversee capital improvement projects including roads, drainage, utilities, sidewalks, traffic infrastructure, and related public works initiatives; supervise technical staff; review development applications; prepare budgets and project estimates; and coordinate with contractors, utilities, and government agencies.
Qualified candidates must possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- New Jersey Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of municipal engineering, land development regulations, public infrastructure, and capital project management
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, customer service, and project management skills, along with a commitment to public service excellence.
