Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer

FSLA Status: Exempt

Location: Plainfield, IN

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Primary Function: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, high-quality, and compliant production operations. This role focuses on process documentation, time studies, line balancing, training support, and issue resolution while partnering cross-functionally to support new products, production stability, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform manufacturing engineering work independently while handling complex or non-standard production situations.
  • Create, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Manufacturing Product Requirements, Requests for Special Services, and Special Audit Instructions as required.
  • Conduct time studies across testing and production processes to support efficiency improvements, capacity planning, and labor optimization.
  • Balance and level production lines based on assembly cycle times, demand, and operational constraints.
  • Partner with production, quality, and engineering teams to support new product introductions and process changes.
  • Support training on new products and processes, including documentation of training records and analysis of training effectiveness.
  • Build and support test units for customer custom configurations and new product testing.
  • Provide day-to-day production support by investigating issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Escalate unresolved manufacturing or process issues to HP or appropriate stakeholders as required.
  • Support continuous improvement and Kaizen initiatives to improve productivity, quality, capacity, and production flow.
  • Maintain manufacturing systems, documentation, and data accuracy to support operational performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
  • Additional technical certifications related to manufacturing, quality, or process improvement are preferred.

Required Experience

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience supporting production lines, process documentation, and operational improvements.
  • Experience conducting time studies, line balancing, and capacity analysis.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with production, quality, and engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting computer hardware assembly or electronics manufacturing preferred.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

The Manufacturing Engineer works primarily in a production or warehouse environment. The role requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving throughout the facility for approximately 95 percent of the workday, with sitting for approximately 5 percent. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and may involve exposure to noise, dust, fumes, odors, and varying temperatures. Employees may be subject to random drug and alcohol testing as required by applicable regulations and must wear required personal protective equipment, including ESD protection.
