Position Summary
This is an ONSITE position in Bethesda, MD.
NCC is seeking a skilled Broadcast Engineer with experience supporting live transmission environments, preferably within television broadcasting operations. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing broadcast systems and infrastructure to support high-quality production and transmission activities. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative approach to supporting operational and production teams.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and support live broadcast transmission systems and related engineering infrastructure.
- Perform audio/video instrumentation measurements and ensure broadcast signal quality and compliance with industry standards.
- Support and maintain conventional broadcast systems, including:
- Baseband video systems (standard and high-definition)
- Television studios and broadcast video cameras
- Production switchers (video mixers) and audio mixers
- Broadcast studio acoustics
- Support broadcast IT systems and technologies, including:
- Video compression formats such as DV25, MPEG, DVB, ATSC, or ISDB
- Digital server playout technologies and control protocols (e.g., VDCP)
- Broadcast automation systems
- RAID, NAS, and SAN storage technologies
- Tape archive and grid storage technologies
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computer networking and operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and RTOS environments.
- Support post-production systems, including video capture and non-linear editing systems (NLEs).
- Develop innovative technical solutions to meet operational and production requirements.
- Collaborate closely with production staff and other support teams to ensure operational efficiency and successful broadcast execution.
- Advise operational and production personnel on the capabilities and effective use of broadcast engineering systems and equipment.
- Conduct acceptance testing on new and refurbished equipment to verify compliance with broadcast performance standards.
- Ensure all broadcast engineering activities comply with applicable industry standards and organizational requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience in live transmission environments, preferably in television engineering and broadcast equipment maintenance.
- Working knowledge of conventional broadcast systems and broadcast IT systems.
- Experience with computer networking and multiple operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and RTOS.
- Familiarity with digital server playout systems, broadcast automation, storage technologies, and post-production workflows.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical and production teams in fast-paced broadcast environments.
- Thorough understanding of broadcast engineering standards and compliance requirements.
- Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) certification at one of the engineering levels, or the ability to obtain certification within nine (9) months of employment.

- Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Management Information Systems
- Broadcast Technology
- Prior experience supporting television broadcast operations in a live production environment.
- Advanced knowledge of broadcast automation, compression technologies, and digital asset management systems.
- Experience implementing technical innovations and workflow improvements within broadcast operations.
