About This Position
Nurse Tech Job Summary
The Nurse Tech position provides nursing students an opportunity to assist licensed nursing personnel in the implementation of day-to-day patient care as well as the routine operations of the nursing unit which assigned. The Nurse Tech provides care to the patients appropriate to the assigned unit.
CCU ( North and South)- The Critical Care Unit is a high intensity, high acuity. The patients encountered will vary in diagnosis, but are the most acute patients in the hospital. They require continuous monitoring and ongoing interventions by an interdisciplinary team in order to maintain hemodynamic stability. Nurse-to-patient ratios are smaller, but the patient's care is frequent and in depth. In CCU patient situations are rapidly changing in intensity, requiring the team to adapt quickly to a change in focus and critically think in order to solve problems for the patient.
Due to the acuity of the unit and specialized nursing care required, the Nurse Tech will be an extension of the nurse rather than be given an independent assignment. Skills performed may be limited but exposure and learning opportunities are abundant.
Dialysis — Inpatient Dialysis offers nurse technicians a unique opportunity to gain exposure to an acute dialysis unit within Critical Care Services. Due to the high acuity of our patients, technicians work in a primarily observational and supervised role, ensuring a strong foundation in safety and clinical awareness. Our dynamic team provides care to patients across the entire hospital, allowing techs to observe and assist with a wide range of complex medical conditions. The unit supports multiple renal replacement modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, SLED, and apheresis. This experience prepares nurse technicians for real-world nursing practice in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment while working alongside experienced dialysis nurses and interdisciplinary teams.
IMCU - The IMCU is an ICU step down unit that cares for complex and higher acuity level patients with modalities such as DKA, Stroke, STEMI, Hypotension, etc. The IMCU is a great environment to learn to be a Critical Care RN in the future. There are many patients in the IMCU that require titratable drips in order to maintain stability, which requires a higher level of nursing skill to maintain. There are also many patients requiring a rapid response team on other units transported to the IMCU for a short period of time, who are stabilized, then transferred to a lower acuity unit to continue their treatment. Overall, the IMCU is an incredible place to learn how to deliver quality care to critically ill patients.
