PSYCHIATRIC MENTAL HEALTH NURSE PRACTITIONER

POSITION SUMMARY-
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychiatric care to patients across the continuum of mental health services. Responsibilities include conducting psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, developing individualized treatment plans, prescribing and managing psychotropic medications, providing patient and family education, and coordinating care with interdisciplinary team members. The PMHNP practices within applicable state and federal regulations, organizational policies, and professional standards while promoting high-quality, patient-centered, safe, and accessible behavioral health care.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS-
Minimum Education
- Bachelors in Nursing ,and Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of post masters certificate program for nurse practitioner

Required Registration/License/Certification- Current national board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) through a nationally recognized certifying body.
- Current prescriptive authority in accordance with applicable state laws and regulations.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration, or eligibility to obtain, when required for assigned duties.
- Must meet all applicable credentialing, privileging, collaborative practice, and/or practice agreement requirements

Preferred Experience- Previous clinical experience in psychiatric or behavioral health care.
- Experience diagnosing and treating psychiatric conditions across the assigned patient population.
- Experience prescribing, monitoring, and managing psychotropic medications.
- Experience developing and implementing individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
- Experience collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, therapists, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members.

Required Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology, medication management, therapeutic monitoring, and potential adverse effects.
- Knowledge of current evidence-based practices and clinical standards in psychiatric and mental health care.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, and risk assessments.
- Ability to assess and respond appropriately to suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, acute psychiatric symptoms, and other behavioral health emergencies.
- Ability to develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently within scope of practice while collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary treatment team and collaborating physician.
