Baker Engineering, LLC’s (Baker) core business centers around the design and development of high-tech, high-performance technologies for a variety of applications, from custom military and commercial engines, to engine components, to the production of parts and mechanical assemblies for other industries. Baker is a division of Waséyabek Development Company, LLC that is wholly owned by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, a Federally recognized Indian Tribe.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will support the manufacturing team in developing, optimizing, and documenting CNC machining processes. This role provides hands-on exposure to CAD/CAM programming, process development, and production support in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The intern will work closely with manufacturing engineers, machinists, and quality teams to improve efficiency, ensure quality, and assist with new product introduction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in creating and editing CNC programs (G-code) using CAD/CAM software under engineer supervision.
- Support development of machining processes, including basic toolpath strategies, feeds/speeds adjustments, and setup planning.
- Help generate and maintain setup sheets, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Assist in designing or modifying simple fixtures, jigs, and workholding solutions.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction and efficiency gains.
- Assist quality team with inspections, data collection, and first article inspections (FAI).
- Help ensure processes align with engineering drawings and GD&T requirements (training provided as needed).
- Support 5S and lean manufacturing activities, including workplace organization and waste reduction.
- Document process changes, test results, and improvement activities.
- Perform all other duties assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent and experience and training in manufacturing.
- Interest in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of machining principles or manufacturing processes (coursework or lab experience acceptable).
- Familiarity with CAD software; exposure to CAM software is a plus.
- Ability to read basic engineering drawings (GD&T knowledge is a plus but not required).
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a hands-on environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to pass a background investigation, including but not limited to nationwide criminal record search, and other relevant background information deemed necessary by Baker Engineering
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous internship, co-op, or shop/lab experience in machining or manufacturing.
- Exposure to CNC machines or G-code.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement concepts.
- Prior knowledge or experience working with a Native American Tribe.
