Job Description
We are a family-oriented Midwest and East coast-based company, with locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. We have a need for an Automation Controls Engineer to support the design, maintenance, and optimization of automated systems for our customers in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
The Automation Control Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, designing, building, and installing electrical systems that power, monitor, and control water and wastewater systems.

What You Get To Do

- Design and develop large area wireless telemetry networks for SCADA Systems
- Designs and develops control enclosures using Autocad Electrical design software.
- Design and Develop SCADA and site HMI graphical interface systems
- Design and Develop PLC controls for SCADA Systems
- Programs, troubleshoots, and tests new standalone PLC and HMI programs.
- Maintains and optimizes existing customer control systems. Works with Ethernet, Wireless Telemetry, and Cellular communication networks.
- Configure, tune and operate PID controllers.
- Manage projects within cost and time constraints.
- Quote water and wastewater projects based on customer specifications.
- Works collaboratively with Account Managers, Application Engineers, and other internal staff.
- Understands and ensures compliance with NEC regulations and UL quality standards
- Work with Crane electricians and customers in the field, requiring up to 10% overnight travel.
- Troubleshoots equipment and system problems utilizing basic test equipment.
- Assists customers during new equipment start-ups.
- Accurately prepares required customer and Crane documentation.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
What We Need From You
- Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automated Manufacturing Systems or related degree or five to seven years related experience and/or training.
- Ability to work with various computer programs including vendor-based software. Proficient in Allen Bradley RSLogix 500 and 5000, Factorytalk View and Autocad, Wonderware, and Ignition software is a plus.
- An ability to work in Wastewater Municipal facilities.
- Strong Attention to detail
- Ability to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Familiar with NEC regulations, UL 508A a plus.
- A skilled troubleshooter and problem-solver.
- A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor.
- A positive, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
- An ability to handle a varied and fast-paced workload to meet customer requirements for projects.
- A well-organized and self-directed team player.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work occasional overtime. Participates in the after-hours on-call emergency service program per Crane requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
