ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES:

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to log into the online school daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions.

HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:

Full Time: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Hourly Starting Rate: $24.25 per hour

We do participate in CalPERS. Please contact your CalPERS counselor about how employment with California Virtual Academies may affect your personal PERS account. Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system.

Job Description

Job Title: Arts and Music Engagement Specialist

Reports To: Director and Assistant Director, Engagement and Community

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Compass

Overview:

The Arts and Music Engagement Specialist supports students’ access to visual and performing arts (arts) education by coordinating and promoting arts instruction and enrichment opportunities. The role focuses on increasing student participation and engagement in arts programming through arts aligned communication, outreach, and program support, with an emphasis on direct student impact.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Centered Instructional Support

  • Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director, Engagement and Community to design and support after school visual and performing arts instruction, enrichment opportunities, and arts-based clubs aligned to the California Arts Standards.

  • Support extended day arts programming, including coordination of virtual and in person arts instruction, performances, showcases, celebrations, and school-based arts initiatives that extend learning beyond the instructional day.

  • Develop and support workshops, orientations, and onboarding activities for students and families focused on after school arts participation and engagement.

  • Support student access and participation in visual and performing arts programs through arts aligned outreach and engagement activities with a direct student impact.

Program Support

  • Develop, manage, and maintain systems to collect, track, and report RSVP, participation, and attendance data for after school arts programs and events to support compliance, time and effort documentation, and program evaluation.

  • Support communication, outreach, and engagement related to after school arts opportunities through school approved platforms, including ParentSquare, school websites, Compass pages, social media, and the Learning Coach Community App.

  • Manage communication systems to ensure families are informed of supplemental arts opportunities and support follow up with families to increase student access and participation.

  • Support and cultivate parent and community engagement in arts education, including virtual or in-person forums, showcases, and arts-related volunteer opportunities (e.g., supporting performances, exhibitions, or mentorship tied to arts programming).

  • Provide regular updates to school staff regarding after school arts programming, participation, and engagement efforts, and participate in meetings, conferences, and professional learning opportunities related to arts education and family engagement, as assigned.

  • Participate in school wide activities and perform other duties as assigned, consistent with Proposition 28 allowable uses and school needs.

Grant Funded Position

This position is grant funded and supported through Proposition 28: Arts and Music in Schools Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act. Employment in this position is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funds.

Requirements / Experience

(No changes required for Prop 28 compliance; current requirements remain appropriate.)

  • Must reside in the state of California.

  • Must reside within one of the following California counties: Alameda, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Contra Costa, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Placer, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba.

  • Knowledge and experience working for CAVA or another California Managed School (desired).

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks accurately and on time.

  • Experience supporting communication, outreach, or engagement initiatives.

  • Experience with social media and digital communication tools.

  • Web content management experience preferred.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Canva, and Google Workspace.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both adults and students.

  • Self-directed and collaborative team member.

  • Ability to travel to events, as assigned.

Certificates and Licenses:

Bachelor’s Degree desired.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have the ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to facilitate school activities, support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and assist with orientations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Restrictions to Time Off:

Professional Development: No days off during assigned professional development days.

Launch: No more than two days off per calendar week during fall and spring launch (August; January/February).

Testing & End-of-Year: No more than two consecutive days off during weeks of make-up testing (mid-May to the end of the school year).
