Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Director of Information Technology Operations and Infrastructure in Richmond, Virginia. The Director of IT Operations and Infrastructure is the architect of Carter Machinery’s digital reliability. In this role, the Director of Operations and Infrastructure manages the transition from legacy on-premises systems to a high-performance Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Azure environment. The individual in this role oversees hosted and cloud infrastructure, service desk excellence, and field connectivity, ensuring our technicians have the "always-on" tools required to maintain world-class machine uptime.

Seeking candidates with a minimum ten years of IT leadership, with a focus on hybrid-cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred); Proven experience supporting a large-scale ERP migration or administration (Dynamics 365 experience is a major plus); Extensive background in vendor management and ITIL-based service desk optimization.

Requirements for the Director of IT Operations and Infrastructure position includes:

  • Thorough knowledge of cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Must have strong decision-making abilities.
  • Must be able to manage complex system transitions without disrupting 24/7 operations.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be able to engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with top management and other firm personnel. Must be able to make presentations to company personnel.
  • Strong managerial and leadership skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands. Requires strong organizational skills.
  • Strong organization skills with ability to effectively prioritize (with changing priorities), multi-task, address issues quickly and professionally, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have an excellent driving record.
  • Must be willing to travel to other locations and conduct off premise training sessions.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends if required.
  • Must promote a positive customer experience.

Physical requirements must be met for the Director of IT Operations and Infrastructure job, including regularly being required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
