JOB RELATIONSHIPS

• Supervises RNs, NAs, UCs and other Surgical Services Employees; responsible to Clinical Director of Surgical Services.

DEFINITION OF POSITION

• The Day Surgery (DS) Staff Nurse is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the nursing care of assigned patients during the pre- and post-operative phase of the surgical experience. The DS staff nurse must work in close collaboration with the CRNA, anesthesiologist, and surgeon for coordination of services to meet patient needs. The Pre-Op Interview Nurse is responsible for obtaining a detailed medical history assessment and providing the patient with education regarding their perioperative course.

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Professional

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
• ACLS and PALS certifications or completion of these within 6 months of employment.
• Current AHA BLS certification required.
• Professional certification preferred.
• Knowledge of current trends and techniques in nursing appropriate to the practice setting.
