Overview

The position of Supervisor, First Class Community Response Unit supports the mission of the Department of Campus Safety to foster and maintain a safe and secure environment for its students, faculty, staff, and visitors by overseeing Security Personnel and by taking proactive measures to reduce crime while building strategic partnerships in the university community. In furtherance of these goals, the Supervisor, First Class will be a part of the Community Response Unit (CRU) which will address issues of safety and security on campus utilizing patrol, crime prevention concepts and safety initiatives across various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, as required to meet department needs.



Responsibilities

Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:
Associate's Degree or one to two years college-level courses.

Required Experience:
3+ years relevant experience in security, including at least one year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience:
1+ years Military or Law Enforcement background, or Higher Ed Campus Security or Campus Safety experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities. Proficient in security best practices, analytical thinking, and objective decision-making under pressure. Skilled in managing situations with firmness, tact, and impartiality. Adept at observing and interviewing victims or witnesses, taking detailed notes, and producing comprehensive factual reports in the DCS records management system, including conducting follow-ups as needed. Knowledgeable in proactive campus safety and crime prevention strategies with effective problem-solving skills. Competent in operating departmental equipment, including radios, and capable of maintaining calm, courteous, and effective communication in emergency and non-emergency scenarios. Able to multitask, work independently, and possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Certification a plus.



Qualifications

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate salary range for this position is USD $32.186 to USD $42.186. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.

Human Resources will conduct a phone interview and possible skills assessments for a pool of qualified applicants. The candidates selected to move forward in the interview process may then participate in one-on-one, and/or panel interviews with DCS personnel designated by the hiring manager. The hiring manager may conduct a final interview and select the applicant for the position.
