Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, a leading healthcare provider in the region, is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Surgery team. As a member of our team, you will provide direct and indirect patient care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient safety and outcomes.

Job Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Provide direct and indirect patient care to optimize patient safety and ensure the highest standard of clinical care.

  • Care Coordination: Act as a primary care coordinator for surgeons, referring physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient care throughout their treatment journey.

  • Patient Assessments: Screen patients, conduct complete histories, and perform physical examinations to assess their health status and determine appropriate treatment plans.

  • Diagnostic and Treatment Orders: Order/prescribe necessary medications, laboratory tests, radiologic studies, routine fluids, diets, and other patient care orders.

  • Surgical Assistance: Serve as a surgical assistant, including handling tissue, providing exposure, using surgical instruments, suturing, tying, and achieving hemostasis during procedures.

  • Trauma Resuscitation: Respond to trauma cases in the Emergency Room to manage and/or assist with resuscitations, ensuring timely and appropriate care.

  • Patient Education: Provide thorough discharge instructions to patients, including home care of wounds, medication management, dietary guidance, and other health care aspects.

  • Staff and Patient Education: Develop and distribute patient education materials in line with current clinical practice guidelines. Create and deliver educational programs for house staff, nursing and medical students, community agencies, and other relevant groups.

  • Clinical Meetings & Continuous Learning: Participate in patient care conferences, team meetings, grand rounds, departmental meetings, seminars, and other educational or training programs. Integrate key learnings into clinical practice.

  • Routine Testing and Procedures: Perform routine diagnostic tests such as laboratory tests, urinalysis, EKGs, blood cultures, and body fluid cultures.

  • Technical Procedures: Conduct technical procedures including aspiration and examination of body fluids, starting IVs or central lines, suturing, cleansing and dressing wounds, giving injections, and removing foreign bodies.

  • Certification Maintenance: Maintain certification as a Physician Assistant through ongoing education and attendance at accredited conferences.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Support and demonstrate compliance with hospital quality standards, policies, and infection control procedures.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and make recommendations to optimize patient care and hospital practices.

  • Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative and professional work environment by building strong relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and the surrounding community.

  • Hospital Mission & Vision: Perform all duties in alignment with Sinai Hospital’s Mission and Vision, contributing to a unified, supportive, and effective workplace.

  • Other Duties: Perform additional related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements
  • Licensing: Current Maryland Physician Assistant or Acute Care NP license

  • Certifications: DEA Controlled Substance Registration, Controlled Dangerous Substances License (or eligibility to obtain).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Skills: Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced hospital environment. Excellent communication skills and clinical judgment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, acute care setting.

  • Familiarity with EMR systems and hospital policies.
