About This Position

POSITION SUMMARY

School nursing practice requires the combination of professional clinical nursing practice with a specialized element that promotes health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of the school-age child. The school nurse is responsible for working closely with school administrators, teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, and providing health guidance in addition to carrying out a wide range of school health activities. The Charter School RN is primarily responsible for providing professional development and supervision to Charter School Health Technicians (from the Hawaii Keiki (HK) Program) with the support of the Charter School APRN. The Charter School RN will also participate in committees and stakeholder groups supporting nursing practice in the school setting.

Meeting of the employee’s professional responsibility will be in line with the duties described below and in coordination with the Employee’s supervisor. While the Employee is not required to report to schools on days when campuses are closed, it is expected that the Employee will meet their professional responsibilities to the schools and program which may include attendance at scheduled meetings during non-student days. The Employee is expected to be physically present at each supervising school weekly and will have one administrative day each week to perform administrative and supervisory duties where they will be available to attend meetings and be available to staff via phone and email.

Hiring multiple candidates to cover school sites in Hilo, Mountain View, Pahoa and Waimea. This Hybrid position works 1 day from home and 4 days at school sites. The RN will be at each assigned school a minimum of one day per week.

Locations: Specifically assigned schools to be determined based on organization need in conjunction with locality of applicants.

*School locations are subject to change depending on evolving school requirements each school year.

Full-Time Mon-Fri 7:30am - 4:00pm, 10 Month Employee

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education, Training & Experience:

Minimum:

  • Associates Degree in Nursing
  • Possession of a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Hawai'i.
  • BLS for healthcare provider certification
  • 2 years of experience in pediatric nursing, primary care, public health, or acute care.
  • Knowledge of state medical information release procedures and laws.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and FERPA rules, regulations, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for bloodborne pathogens.
