POSITION: Food Shelf Laborer/Driver

HOURS: 40 hours/Week

JOB SUMMARY

The Food Shelf Laborer is responsible for day-to-day operations within the food shelf. This position is labor intensive, involving consistent heavy lifting above 50 pounds throughout the day. You must know how to operate a pallet jack (electric & regular) to rotate various larger items and to move pallets as needed. A valid driver's license is required, and candidate must be able to drive a box truck and transit van. The Food Shelf Laborer is also responsible for continuous stocking of shelves to ensure adequate food supply, sorting produce, moving product, assisting clients, handling donations internally and externally, light cleaning, and assisting with various food shelf projects. This position is expected to have knowledge of all areas within the food shelf and will act as a substitute when/if needed.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Unload donation deliveries and food bank deliveries, tracking weights asappropriate.
  • Sortproduce for the shopping floor and cooler.
  • Sort and stock deliveries, including stockingshoppingarea.
  • Assistingclients through the food shelf to select food items.
  • Light daily cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, andemptying garbage/recycling bins.
  • Back updriverto pick up retail rescue food from local grocery storesand donation drives.
  • Assistwith mobile foodshelf, includingpacking,deliveringand preparation.
  • Assistwith food deliveries, including multiple food distributions in our service area.
  • Provide guidance and supportfor community service workersand county work program employees.
  • AssistFood ShelfManagerwithdaily tasks andshiftwork focus when needed.
  • Works collaboratively with other staff, clients,partners,and volunteers.
  • Responsible forassistingwith community projects, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a VALID Mn Driver's License & be able to drive
  • Must be able to drive andoperatea box truck and transit van
  • Must be able & willing toliftover50 poundsconsistently

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

High school education, post-secondary training, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a related industry.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License, proof of insurance and review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Position can be labor intensive. Work is performed in a warehouse environment which requires regular heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds, sometimes larger, heavy boxes, and other various items. You must have access to reliable transportation. The ability to drive a motor vehicle is required. A job in this category requires walking and standing to a significant degree.
